Melville Residents' Association

Dear Melville Residents,

There are a few more options if you would like to provide assistance to those in need in our local community. We have added to the previously compiled list.

First, the ongoing emergency food project will run again this week. This last Thursday, a group of dedicated Melville residents in partner with Viva Foundation NPO, were able to help feed 200+ families within our local Melville and immediate surrounding community.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and contributions during this time. The need is still there, which means the group will be doing their best to meet it again this Thursday.

Please note that the next distribution is set for Thursday 21 May, between 07:30 and 09:00 on Third Avenue. The same safety protocols are in place and will be starting earlier to monitor social distancing in the queuing prior to the distribution time:

• Melville Security Initiative and Beagle Watch are stationing cars in Third Avenue before collection begins until the food collection is finished and any remaining people have been dispersed.

• Queuing will strictly adhere to government guidelines (1.5m between people), which means the queue will stretch a long way down the avenue.

• Names and photos of recipients will be taken, with masks on, to prevent any abuse of the system and to account for all funds.

• Only individuals in possession of the current week’s ticket will receive a parcel.

The volunteers are doing an amazing job but could use additional help from the Melville community. If you are able to assist with:

• Person-power for preparing or distributing parcels,
• Providing storage for parcel items prior to packing,
• Distribution of tickets prior to collection

Please get in touch, either via the MRA or directly with Tanya and Sean.  Should you wish to donate funds towards the groceries that go into the food parcels, please use the reference MELVILLE for this account: Viva Foundation of South Africa, FNB 622 4884 3270
