Dear USET/USET SPF Family,
Following the alarming Supreme Court decision in Oklahoma v. Castro-Huerta, in which the Court ruled that states have concurrent criminal jurisdiction over non-Indian crimes against Indians in Indian country under federal law, the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) is convening a Tribal leader and Tribal organization roundtable to discuss next steps.
The roundtable will be held this Thursday, August 4th, from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm ET. In order to ensure that no press is in the room and that Tribal Nation leaders are given the ability to speak first, NCAI asking that all attendees register for the Zoom call here.
For more information, please see USET SPF's alert on the Castro-Huerta decision or contact Liz Malerba, USET SPF Director of Policy and Legislative Affairs, at lmalerba@usetinc.org.
