Author Christie Purifoy drew deep satisfaction from creating a picture-perfect symmetrical garden at her home in West Grove. It looked beautiful, but the circular path led people straight back out and a lovely old iron bench that sat in the middle of a rose garden invited photographs but not people.
Purifoy and her husband recently remade this beautiful garden into what some might say is a less beautiful place. “The pictures are less pretty, but it’s a better, more beautiful place because instead of a place to admire it’s an inviting space for people,” she says.

Kennett Collaborative is a nonprofit led by a diverse and dynamic group of community members who love Kennett and want to help it become a more beautiful and welcoming community where all can belong and prosper. Each week, we introduce you to one of our Board members who share what they love about our community—and about Kennett Collaborative.
Kennett Collaborative Board member and treasurer Geoff Bosley says:
Kennett Square is my home and has been virtually my entire life. To see how the town has progressed now as compared to where it was in my youth in the 1980s and 90s is remarkable. It's such a great, entertaining, safe, diverse place to raise a family. I walk to my office virtually every day. In addition to being able to get some fresh air and exercise, I love looking at the buildings and homes along the way. I can go a different route each day as well to learn more about the town!
We have a ton of favorites in town. My family and I spend a lot of time at The Market since it's so family friendly. We also enjoy going to La Verona, Portabellos, and Letty's, just to name a few. We're looking forward to the return of the Mushroom Festival this year and also enjoy the Third Thursdays, Kennett Brewfest, and the many parades that Kennett offers.
I enjoy serving on the Kennett Collaborative Board. Volunteering and being involved in the town has inspired me to serve with different organizations over the years. Historic Kennett Square (now Kennett Collaborative) played such a vital role in the transformation of Kennett over the past 20–25 years, and it's been a wonderful experience playing a part in the organization.
Just seeing the town continue to thrive and grow is so important. As the main street organization, Kennett Collaborative is very vital to the strength and vibrancy of the town. I'm most excited about helping with the cohesion among other important nonprofit, for-profit, and governmental agencies while playing a vital role in the continued economic development of the area!
We're very excited to see plans coming together for Kennett Blooms 2022, including the first annual Floral Flash event in June! We hope you will consider collaborating with us to plant seeds of beauty and community this season with a donation to Kennett Blooms.
Thank you for reading and for continuing to support our local community, businesses, and nonprofits. We wish you a happy and healthy week "Around the Square"!
