Dear all,

I have a staff going for Wisdom Tooth extraction next week. He informed HR a week beforehand. Should he apply MC or AL for the day of the surgery?

I understand that he might be given MC after the surgery. But he informed us beforehand and the surgery is in the afternoon.

The staff is kind enough to inform the company of going for dental appointment in advance. He is required to follow up by presenting the Medical Chit/ Leave after the extraction.

MC for such surgery is acceptable and company should approve too.

He is responsible enough to keep you informed ahead. For such obvious cases we would allow staff to apply for Medical Leave and tell them to submit Medical Cert once back to office. I always appreciate a staff who keeps me informed ahead rather than just do not appear to work and call in MC in the morning.

Such MC is recognised as part of the medical leave entitlement if the Dentist which staff visited is recognised by the Company.

- If he applies leave in the morning before surgery then 0.5 day AL applies.

- Otherwise his MC would covered his absence in the afternoon which is the actual day of the surgery to the date he’s fit for work again.

- Have a look at other staff’s MC and you’ll notice it usually start/cover the actual date.

As long it is non cosmetic related, we will accept the dental MC. 
Informing beforehand is a nice gesture, which I feel should be promoted.
