The Union of Opposition Presidential Candidates has called for a protest on Friday 26 February at the Daljirka Daahsoon square in Mogadishu. The protest is a result of the nationwide elections impasse in the country after failing to hold elections on 08 February.
This call for a new protest comes after a demonstration on Friday 19 February turned violent following clashes between civilians and Somali National Army troops. The security forces fired on hundreds of protesters who were peacefully demonstrating in the capital. This protest led to the closure of Aden Adde International Airport where an explosion occurred during the civil unrest.
There is a high likelihood that this latest scheduled protest will also turn violent and business operations will be interrupted in the city. It is advised to restrict all movements in the capital whilst the political impasse and associated demonstrations continue.
