"If tomorrow your church closed its doors, would anyone in the neighborhood even miss it?"
It's a simple and profound question that missiologists have been asking for years.
It's an inciting question and not unrelated to the principal question Resonate Global Mission helps congregations ask in Go Local: “How do we join with God in our neighborhood?”
And it's a question we actually get to ask right now!
While churches in some areas are beginning to open their doors, many others are anticipating that they won't "reopen" for Sunday worship at any point in 2020. Doors will remain closed, which means your church will likely have more time to figure out whether anyone in the community even notices your absence.
Indeed there is so much to grieve this year, but perhaps this is one small gift the pandemic is offering congregations: a chance to reassess IF and HOW you are expressing and embodying the good news beyond Sunday in your local community.
As always, our regional team is ready and willing to help you lean into these questions. You'll also find some helpful resources in this brief update, including two conferences happening later this week (over 50 of our CRC Latino brothers and sisters will be participating in Exponential Espanol!) and info about Resonate partner and CRC pastor Tim Soerens' latest book, which will help give you eyes to see how the Spirit is at work in your context and how you might join in.
