During this interactive webinar participants will explore ways of engaging people in adult mental health with a focus on fun, enjoyment and creative engagement. Drawing from Ella’s current client work, the webinar will focus on adapting Dance Movement Therapy for different individuals based on therapeutic needs and aesthetic interests and preferences. Participants will explore the idea of a water-based DMT and consider what this might afford the client in terms of freedom, expression, and connection to self and other.
Following the client’s lead, DMT can be adapted flexibly to suit the therapeutic goals and artistic interests of individuals, which in some cases can lead to new ideas and practices that are collaboratively developed through the client and therapist partnership.
This interactive session allows participants a glimpse into a practice method that emerged through Ella’s work with clients in a forensic mental health facility, highlighting the importance of individualised session planning when responding to clients' aesthetic preferences and health goals.
This webinar will contribute toward the further development of methods used by DMTs and other health practitioners to engage clients in practice.
