We are exposed to many different man-made chemical compounds every day, with exposure to new toxicants being much higher than what our ancestors experienced. There are several common GST variants that decrease the function of the GST enzymes. (Member's only article).
HMGB1 is a protein with many important roles, like the well known Swiss Army knife. Its role is dependent on its location in the body and its range runs from nuclear protein to inflammatory alarmin. A SARS-CoV-2 interaction exists and HMGB1 seems to play an integral role in the severe SARS-CoV-2 response by some people.
