Hello from the frozen Taiga - the biome of the needle leaf forest and the largest biome in the world. 

What?

Yes, Minnesota is a part of that formerly glaciated area. Did you know that? Did you know that Taiga is also known as the Boreal Forest and that the word Boreal was the name of the Greek goddess of the North Wind?

Don't worry, I haven't transformed and become a super-smart scientist, but I was feeling a little philosophical after re-organizing my bookshelves and coming across a wonderful book called Daughter of the Forest (Book 1 of the Sevenwaters Trilogy). It is a retelling of ancient Celtic legend and takes place in a deep forest known as Sevenwaters. If you're looking for a great, easy-to-read series that will take you to magical places, this is your ticket.

My college-age daughter loved these books too! It was fun to see her devour them. Nothing like tucking a blanket around your baby while she's reading a known treasure and receiving a look of adoration on her face as she smiles up at you for making her comfy. Wait - did I dream that? Maybe she didn't look up but just asked for socks.
