Greetings everyone!
I hope you had a great weekend. My husband is fast approaching the completion of his studies, and we celebrated by going to see Cirque du Soleil: Corteo! This is the first time I've attended a live show in almost 10 years, and the first real activity we've done since the pandemic (which also means one of our first dates as a married couple that didn't include hiking outdoors).
It was an amazing experience and I'm glad I was able to attend one show here in Chicago before moving. Speaking of which, I paused my Patreon for the month of June as I'm super busy packing up and getting ready to move back to Canada in just four short weeks!
The Saffron Crocus...
This past week, the Corset of the Week was called Crocus Delight, a cheerful light purple floral cotton. Although this wasn't one of my selected colorways, I incidentally love the crocus flower because it's the source of saffron spice, which throughout history was more expensive than gold, gram for gram. It takes 200 crocus flowers to harvest a gram of saffron, and it's all done by hand!
If you want to read more about saffron's rich history, here's a good article from Reader's Digest. The saffron crocus has been studied by alchemists, used by queens and pharaohs, made into perfumes, cosmetics, fabric dyes and hair dyes, and of course, used in cooking and herbal medicine.
