Hockey and Music

We are launching a new initiative for hockey and music enthusiasts across the country - the Hockey and Music Contest! We want those who are passionate about both sports and music to show up and tell us how this impacts you and your community. This year, we’ve chosen Canada’s national sport, hockey, to see how those living in Canada benefit from being involved in this and also in music. We want your local team to tell us why by singing a song on ice, in uniform, with passion! For more information click here or visit our website, www.musicmonday.ca.

Youth4Music Kingston

We had an amazing event this month in Kingston, ON where over 40 youth attended the first Youth4Music Kingston Event at Queen’s University in Kingston. A collaboration with QUSMEA (Queen’s University Student Music Educator’s Association) brought out some incredible youth leaders who wanted to talk about the importance of music in their school and community. We had some awesome musical performances from students and local pop group Busty and the Bass, as well as an engaging and interactive presentation from Artist-Educator Gary Rasberry. The day finished off with the establishment of our newest Youth4Music Hub who look forward to a great Music Monday 2018 celebration and a project involving students volunteer as mentors in schools. We can’t wait to hear more about it!

Women’s Empowerment Module

This year we’ve celebrated the centenary of the women’s right to vote in Canada through our Women’s Empowerment Through Music initiative. We’ve heard your powerful stories and the Canadian female musicians and music that’s important to you. To commemorate this significant anniversary, we’ve developed an online learning and teaching module to continue to remember this significant time in Canadian music history. This module will be available on our website for free; a resource linking music and women’s suffrage in the classroom. More information will be available soon when we launch the resource in February 2018.

Music Tool Application: Cadenza-Notemaker

The Music Tool Suite has developed some incredible tools for students and teachers to improve their own practicing and engage in the process and journey. Did you know that the Cadenza-Notemaker application is FREE? It is! An incredible app that helps build the practice technique of students and creates ownership over their craft while keeping it fun and interactive for both the teacher and student.
