James Craig Music Club - 7.30pm
James Craig Music Club is starting up again. We are returning to the beginnings of the group by hosting a Shanty Night. High on the wave of publicity about the Tik Tok sensation that originated with the Wellerman 'shanty', the veteran shanty singers, 40 Degrees South, will at last be returning to the decks of the James Craig to share their newest batch of sea songs & shanties. Members of the group - Margaret Walters, Tom Hanson, Chris Maltby, Don Brian - have immersed themselves in maritime songs for over 40 years - & in July they'll be sailing off to the International Folk'n Shanty Festival in Albany WA (on Facebook). JCMC is held Bimonthly on board the James Craig moored at Wharf 7 in Pyrmont Bay, near the Australian National Maritime Museum. (Next meeting is in June.)
7pm, ship opens; 7.30, featured act; 8.30, supper break (tea & nibbles); 9pm, all-in sing around; 9.45, ship closes.
$15; $10 concession; families $25. Beer & wine available to purchase. Part of the evening’s proceeds go to supporting the Sydney Heritage Fleet.
Nearest train station is light rail at Pyrmont Bay. Paid parking available at the Star Casino & at Harbourside Parking. There may be parking along the road parallel to Wharf 7.
