I'll keep this note in this week's edition in case you missed it last week or forgot to send it along to the perfect candidate(s). We are excited to announce that the Foundation has been approved for two national service positions through PMSC AmeriCorps. These contract positions at PMSC AmeriCorps are for 1,700 hours (40 hours a week) each and include a bi-weekly stipend, education award upon completion, and other benefits. 

The first position focuses on the new Healthy Lands Week program—marketing the program and engaging volunteers. The second position focuses on trail maintenance training and implementation. Visit the PPFF News Blog to access the full position descriptions and apply before July 26th. 

Both positions require some previous knowledge. AmeriCorps is great for participants of all ages—those just entering the workforce or those transitioning between careers or looking for engagement after retirement. The educational stipend is transferable to children and grandchildren if you do not need it!

The reason I was out at the office this week was for American Red Cross first aid/CPR training. 

Here you can see Bernadette performing CPR on an unresponsive friend. She's a blur as she pumps the required 100-120 compressions per minute to save this life. The entire PPFF staff is now certified to give CPR (adult and pediatric) as well as administer naxolone in the event of an overdose.

Spanish language translator needed for tomorrow's LCW hike at Susquehannock State Park in Lancaster County! Member Charles Hutler (who tirelessly helps to promote the Seen 'Em All Challenge to anyone and everyone and who curates park and forest photos on Google maps), shared a timely note this week:

"I attended a very informative plant I.D. walk this past Saturday along the Sawmill Trail at Beltzville State Park. Rob Bergerstresser led the hike. Rob is a dedicated parks employee and leads at least one program a week although many times it's a lot more. He is especially fond of bird I.D. walks."

Charles's note was timely because today is Park & Recreation Professionals Day and it's the perfect time to thank all of those hard-working park (and forest) professionals who make our experiences so positive - and fun!

As the Pennsylvania Recreation & Park Society writes, "Wanna know how you can tell your local park and recreation professional is there for you? Because you (and your dog) have well-marked hiking and walking paths. Because your kids have a safe place to swing. Because your pickleball team has a new court to play on. And you can watch a movie in the park on a summer night."

The day is a great reminder to all of us to show some "Good Gratitude," with a note of thanks, a post to your social media, or an offer to volunteer. 

A few years ago posted a "thank you card" you could download and print out to take with you on Parks & Forests Week visits. Let's recycle the sentiment and put them to use as you go out and about this weekend!
