March 26: "The Bully on Our Block" How do we respond to the grown-up bullies who seem determined to cause harm to those who are already marginalized and struggling in our society? Do we try to ignore them? Do we match their violence with more violence? Do we attempt to love them into positive change? How do we achieve the world we want to see when we are fighting so hard just to keep fighting?

Art Show through Sunday, April 2
“Sunday Morning Meditations”
by Mtn Woman Silver
The current exhibition is intimately connected to this church. All the art pieces started as sketches which Silver created while listening to sermons on Sunday mornings. In 2020, while looking through her sketch books, she counted over 80 of the elaborate abstract sketches and was inspired to reproduce them on canvas, using acrylic paints, ink and sometimes pencils.
This exhibition will be on display through Sunday, April 2, 2023. On Sunday, March 26, at 12:15 pm in Daniel Hall, there will be a reception and a “Meet the Artist” event.
Calling all visual artists!
The 1UC Art Committee is up & running. We are planning shows for every other month of the 2023 calendar year.
Are you an amateur or professional artist who might be interested in participating in a group or solo show at 1UC? Do you have a good idea for an art show? If your answer is "yes" to either question, we want to hear from you!
Please contact Jeanne Parkhurst via email or text: jeanne.parkhurst@gmail.com; (405) 496-0445.

Social Justice News!
- MARCH IS WOMENS HISTORY MONTH – International Women's Day is a global holiday celebrated annually on March 8 as a focal point in the women's rights movement, bringing attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women.
Spurred on by the universal female suffrage movement, IWD originated from labor movements in North America and Europe during the early 20th century. The earliest version was purportedly a "Women's Day" organized by the Socialist Party of America in New York City February 28, 1909.
This inspired German delegates at the 1910 International Socialist Women's Conference to propose "a special Women's Day" be organized annually, albeit with no set date; the following year saw the first demonstrations and commemorations of International Women's Day across Europe.
After women gained suffrage in Soviet Russia in 1917 (the beginning of the February Revolution), IWD was made a national holiday on March 8; it was subsequently celebrated on that date by the socialist movement and communist countries. The holiday was associated with far-left movements and governments until its adoption by the global feminist movement in the late 1960s. IWD became a mainstream global holiday following its adoption by the United Nations in 1977.
International Women's Day is commemorated in a variety of ways worldwide; it is a public holiday in several countries, and observed socially or locally in others to celebrate and promote the achievements of women.
The UN observes the holiday in connection with a particular issue, campaign, or theme in women's rights.[6] In some parts of the world, IWD still reflects its political origins, being marked by protests and calls for radical change; in other areas, particularly in the West, it is largely sociocultural and centered on a celebration of womanhood.

days of Ramadan begin March 21st and this year, our church is
hosting the dinner on March 26th beginning at 7:00 pm. Prior to the
dinner, there will be an opportunity to learn about Ramadan, including Q &
A’s. Seating is limited to please contact Susan Bishop for a reservation.

Our consumer-powered culture is not only an enormous waste of our time and money, it is also destroying our planet. Clothing is one of the worst offenders, partly due to the amount of water required to rinse dyed cloth. Also, clothing is a necessity, making it way too easy to indulge. Another down side of much clothing production is that it is also be a source of exploitation of the (usually) women who work in the industry.
How to get around this? My daughter seldom shops for new clothing; she has discovered some great finds at thrift stores. I have seen her bring home clothes still bearing the sales label! Another source of used clothing is a Swap Meet. Norman used to have one yearly; people brought donations and picked up garments for themselves. We could have one of these. Prior to the Pandemic, we discussed having a Swap Meet for people who are or have transitioned.
Since finding clothing that simply fits me is a challenge, I often feel it is easier to sew my own. This task used to save a lot of money. Unfortunately, the largest fabric retailer closed a few years ago, and the remaining fabric chain immediately raised its prices by about $4.00/yard. Added to that, manufactured clothing has gotten cheaper, albeit less durable. Fashioning one’s own clothing also has satisfaction beyond thrift; when it’s done!
This will not save the planet, but sometimes it can be empowering to think that we are doing something, however little.
If you have a Green Hint, send it to me at lacorderagnew@cox..net. And stay tuned for the beginning of our Green Sanctuary 2030!
