The 2024 New Youth Recruiting season is changing over to October across Central Illinois literally, for when the calendar strikes spooky season, the ALC postseason gets going! Our Magic Number is 35 to go! We have had 5 consecutive months of growth and EVERY district is showing GROWTH, Let’s Finish Strong!!

Over the years, councils and districts have explored new ways to deliver Roundtable. During the pandemic, the tools were made available to conduct virtual Roundtables with the use of Roundtable Videos. Find them here: https://www.scouting.org/commissioners/roundtable-support/

There are more than 30 different Cub Scout Roundtable videos with new videos produced throughout the year.

All the Cub Scout Roundtable videos have been updated to reflect the 2024 program updates. With it, a new Cub Scout Roundtable Video Guide is available to assist unit-serving executives and Roundtable Commissioners. This guide has a suggested month-by-month video for those who conduct more formal Roundtables. The guide also explains that these videos can be used at any time as a coaching tool for Packs who need help in a specific area.

In collaboration with the National COPE and Climbing Subcommittee, ScoutingU has released an updated version of “Climb on Safely” online training that is also mobile compatible. Climb on Safely online training ensures that adult leaders are prepared to plan for climbing events for their units. To access the updated training, log onto my.Scouting.org and search the catalog in the BSA Learn Center for “Climb on Safely.” For additional information regarding COPE and Climbing programs, please refer to the Guide to Safe Scouting and the Belay on manual.

Q. Does Climb on Safely training have to be renewed?

A. Yes, adults supervising a climbing activity must have completed Climb on Safely training within the previous two years.

Q. Do I need to take the new version of Climb on Safely training if my current training is not expired?

A. No, you can complete the updated version when your current certification expires.

Q. Is Climb on Safely training available to take in person?

A. No, currently the training is only available online. It is also mobile compatible. There may be an in person syllabus in the future.

Scouting’s outdoor program is a critical part of how the Scouts BSA program develops young leaders. While camping or participating in other outdoor events, your Scouts will challenge themselves to learn skills they’ve never tried before or maybe didn’t think they could do. In doing so, your Scouts will work together as a team to overcome adversity when things don’t go as planned; this is truly the magic of Scouting that no other program does as well.

The Boy Scouts of America offers an online member and unit renewal process. Listed below are several resources to assist with smooth and improved renewal processes. All units and members currently registered with the BSA need to complete this process on a yearly basis.

The Adult First Aid/CPR/AED course incorporates the latest science and teaches students to recognize and care for a variety of first aid emergencies such as burns, cuts, scrapes, sudden illnesses, head, neck, back injuries, heat and cold emergencies and how to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies for victims about 12 years and older. Successful students will receive a certificate for Adult First Aid/CPR/AED valid for two years.

Prepare for the unexpected with this engaging, hands-on introduction to wilderness medicine, taught over two or two and a half days. If you like to take short trips relatively close to medical resources, work at wilderness camps, enjoy weekend family outdoor activities, or recreate outdoors, this course is for you.

This course is great for people of all experience levels, and is best suited for those who recreate outdoors where EMS response can be expected in a timely manner (fewer than eight hours). You'll learn the Patient Assessment System, how to provide effective first aid treatments for injuries and illnesses common in the outdoors, and how to make appropriate evacuation decisions.

One of the Order of the Arrow's highest goals is to train young scouts to be leaders for tomorrow. We would like to invite any Order of the Arrow Member to Illinek Lodge’s Lodge Leadership Development Training. It will take place on November 2nd, 2024; however, the location will be announced at a later date. This event is planned for training and a night full of games, movies, and fellowship to follow a day of developing our future leaders to succeed.

Join us at the Jr Blues game on December 7th.

Whether working with a pack, troop, crew, ship, club or post, unit commissioners are key to ensuring units have the necessary resources to provide a quality program for their youth. This is a one-year position that is renewable annually. Responsibilities: Unit Support. Registered scouters with some scouting experience and/or training, who might have stepped away from weekly meetings and monthly camping or unit events, are perfect candidates to help in this role by being assigned to a few units for occasional visits and providing resources. Please recommend to any of those stepping down from key unit roles to contact the council office for more information.

New Program Highlights and 12-month Calendars.

The Council Program Committees have out together a Pack and Troop version of our calendar and events. This will be mailed out to every Scouting family in September. This is designed to help communicate when our events are. It’s also designed to help Troops and Packs plan to go to these events with their Scouts.

Friends of Scouting donations make up 15% of our income each year, and is vital to the programs and services of the Council.
