Issue #11  //  What do you want to hear from us? 😍

"Speech belongs half to the speaker, half to the listener."

- Michel de Montaigne

After a go-go-go summer for both of us, we’re on a Semi-Together season break until early October. That means we’re publishing minisodes and scaled-back versions of this e-newsletter while we plan for Season 2 and cook up some related projects.

That’s where you come in! As we’re mapping out our next episodes, supporter perks (stay tuned for those, coming soon), and products and programs for living more fully, we’d love to hear what appeals to you. Please take a few minutes for our 5-question listener poll below.

We can’t thank you enough for sharing your thoughts and being a part of our Semi-Together tribe!

🎙 Latest Minisode - Know When to Take a Break

Do you know when it’s time to take a break? In this minisode, we talk about why, how, and when to recharge. Plus, we share a few simple ways to keep in touch and show some love for Semi-Together during the break (one involves signing up for this newsletter, so way to go!).

👉 Steal This Tip: Take that break.

Downtime is essential for your mental and physical well-being. Research shows that mental breaks increase productivity, boost creativity, and replenish attention, so go for it.

There must be something in the air, because the episode of Happier in Hollywood that came out the day after ours offered this advice, too!

Episode #1: False Starts & Fresh Starts🎙

Go back to the very beginning and hear where Semi-Together started (well, restarted!).

From Melia:

  • Inside the Writers' Room
If you’re a comedy writing geek who’s fascinated by what makes one word or phrase funnier than another, you’ll love these pieces in Vulture (long-form, but worth it!). This one interviews writing teams from shows like Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Bob’s Burgers about the lingo they’ve made up as shorthand in the writers’ room. And this one unpacks the culture of the Friends writers' room, which was like “a party room and a prison cell.” It’s an excerpt from Saul Austerlitz’s forthcoming book, Generation Friends. Could I be any more excited to read it?

      From Gill:

      • Spicy Pork Bowls
This recipe has saved me from ordering takeout countless nights. Freeze pork tenderloin for 30 minutes so it’s easy to cut into thin slices. Let pork sit in a bulgogi-style marinade for 10 minutes, then stir-fry and serve with rice and veggies.

        Until next time!
