Are We Having Fun Yet?

So, this newsletter is late, this month--and for that I'm sorry. And unfortunately, I don't have the next installment in Maddy's story ready yet--again, I apologize. But I do have a treat for you in its place, and a couple stories about this past month. And believe me, July was one heck of a month!

First, I have had several dental issues that not only cost me a fortune, but that ended up with me on a soft foods diet that threw my body for a loop.

Then, I had to sort out things with the (cue ominous music) IRS...and yes, things worked out okay but not until I spent several hours on the phone sorting things out.

Two of my dear friends lost their beloved kitties in July, a couple friends had medical scares, I lost a stone out of a ring, and...oh, just oh so many things. And then...the shelves came crashing down.

And So The Shelves Came Crashing Down...

So, two weeks ago, I was sitting at my desk, writing, and there was a HUGE crash behind me. I turn around and see the shelves in my supply closet tipping, tumbling supplies and reams of paper off onto the floor. I hurry over to try and take things off the top shelves, but I'm short and they were well overhead, and a ream of paper almost hit my head but luckily I managed to deflect most of the blow with my hands.

I backed away, deciding it was time to call my BFF and invoke the Best Friends Clause, asking if she could come up (she's tall enough to get things down without being hurt). So she came up and helped out, and we unloaded the shelves. So, yeah, we found out that the shelves hadn't been attached to the studs. So Andria (my local assistant) did her magic and now they are back up, and firmly attached to the studs, and we repainted the accent wall and storage closet since we had the opportunity, so my office now has a makeover. So at least that ended on a positive note, and neither I nor the kitties were hurt. (Sam either--but he doesn't get around my supply closet much). You can see the updated pictures below!

So finally, things are settling down and getting back in order, and hopefully, they'll stay that way. Trust me, Mercury Retrograde was kicking my ass this time.

My accent wall, updated (and ready for one more piece of artwork).

The shelves are now anchored into the studs in the wall and they won't come tumbling down.

But life takes a sinister turn when a spirit begins siphoning off the life force of one of Kipa’s wolf shifters.

Gunnar, a member of the SuVahta—the pack of divine werewolves bound to the Lord of Wolves—is dying, and nobody can figure out why. Gunnar blames himself for the death of his beloved wife, and he believes she is haunting him.

When Kipa asks Raven to examine the shifter, she finds a far deadlier spirit latched onto the werewolf. And the only way Raven can help is to first agree to a deadly alliance with one of the ancient Ante-Fae—Arachna, the Web Weaver. But Arachna’s price is far steeper than Raven can afford to pay, and the fallout threatens to shake the very core of Raven’s life.

Wild Hunt Book 7

When you dance with death, you have to learn how to roll the bones...

Raven BoneTalker, also known as the Daughter of Bones, is one of the Ante-Fae—the dangerous, unpredictable predecessors to the Fae Races. But Raven is young, and she likes interacting with mortals, so she’s opened a business—the Witching Hour—where she takes on clients with ghostly problems. Mostly she reads cards, boots out the odd poltergeist, or helps grieving families contact their loved ones for closure.

But when Lana, one of her friends, comes begging for help, things take a dark turn. Raven investigates what seems like a simple haunting on the surface. But the more she delves into the case, the more she realizes that this is no simple ghost. As Raven untangles a web of secrets and deceits kept for over fifty years, she finds herself in danger, facing not only a ghostly threat, but also a danger that is very much alive.
