For Immediate Release
Scout & Friends Save Life of Five
East Hartford, CT, Evan Kamoen, a Scout from Troop 18 in Killingworth, CT, went out fishing with two friends on the Long Island sound off the coast of Clinton. While fishing, they heard a distress call on the radio and found a boat capsizing with five elderly men aboard. Evan and his friends did not waste time and bounded into action. When they reached the accident, the boat had fully overturned. Evan and his small crew managed to pull all of the men aboard his boat. Three of those men could not swim, so it was imperative that they moved quickly for the successful rescue.
“Lifejackets, the use of Marine VHF Radios, and the monitoring of Channel 16 by the Good Samaritan rescue vessels saved the lives of these five men,” DEEP Environmental Conservation Officer Alexandra Blackwell said in a press release from DEEP.'
Thank you Evan for living the Scout Oath and Law and for being prepared. For more information, NBC CT did a great piece on Evan and the rescue. That article can be found HERE.
