40 Pedagogical Sessions for teachers in Huila |

|
Thousands of school children are benefiting from the additional skills, and renewed motivation and enthusiasm that the in-service training course engenders in participants. Primary school teachers in Gambos and Bibala received their certificates in December on completion of the 40 Pedagogical Sessions. Berta Morais, Head of Huíla Provincial Education Office, spoke of the impact ADPP has in Huíla and Namibe, during the graduation ceremony for 154 in-service teachers in Huíla. In Bibala, Namibe, 73 teachers graduated.

Children Enjoying Art and Music lessons
Art and Music play a key role in engaging children, making school a fun place to be, and contributing to academic development. Students at Teacher Training School ADPP Zaire are piloting art, music and physical education thanks to ADPP’s Jimbuetete project, financed by LNG. They have been giving lessons to children in local primary schools this month, after intensive training at the end of November.

Women in Action graduations |
|
|
|
Dressmaking Courses open up employment and income-generating opportunities. 67 women in group 4 at the Women in Action project in Estalagem, Luanda, graduated in December after completing a sewing and entrepreneurship course. Viana Municipal Administration attended the ceremony. There was also a graduation ceremony for 130 participants at Zango Women in Action.

STEM certificates |
|
Science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) training is changing the course of education in these disciplines for teachers and pupils alike. STEM Phase 2 participants received their certificates in December and a promising student from each school received a prize of a rucksack and STEM book, as here at Escola Mutu-ya-kevela. The STEM programme is contributing to tackling real world challenges in Angola.

World AIDS Day
The annual day was commemorated at all ADPP projects, where there was resounding support for the year’s theme:
End inequalities, end AIDS, end pandemics.

Malnutrition
Malnutrition was in focus at the Integrated Community Project in Gambos, Huíla Province, where health workers attended training on 6 December.
Júlio Madaleno, Provincial Public Health Supervisor, Adilson Nascimento Pedro, Provincial Malnutrition Supervisor, and João Câncio Zau Sancha, Head of Gambos Municipal Public Health, provided the training, which will help save lives and improve the health of the most vulnerable.

Girls’ Clubs
Known as "Bancadas", our girl's clubs are a powerful and effective way of reaching girls and young women with health messages, especially on sexual and reproductive health, and HIV prevention. Knowledge is also power, so it is vital to develop strategies that ensure participants keep attending sessions to consolidate their knowledge and develop the confidence to use it, as at this Girls’ Club meeting in Benguela.

Malaria Open Days
The TCE project in Cuanza Norte used theatre to get key malaria prevention messages across to dozens of school pupils from Malaria Control Patrols. The pupils will soon be passing on these same messages at school, at home and in the community.

Sport and malaria
TCE Malanje finalized their sport tournament, which they used to help bring key messages about malaria, HIV and TB to a broad public. Youth leaders participated in training on disease prevention, passing on messages to their pupils. Team and individual prizes were awarded, while everyone was a winner thanks to the knowledge gained.

Agriculture & Environment |
|

|
|
1 Million Mangrove Trees have been planted before 31 December, as promised by Angola to the African Union. The project was launched by the Angolan vice president and implemented by the Otchiva Association. Teacher Training School ADPP Luanda participated, along with thousands of other volunteers, in the restoration of mangroves along the coast of Luanda, Bengo, Cabinda and Zaire. Local marine biodiversity is recovering and fishing communities are benefiting.

Efficient wood-saving stoves |
|
These make all the difference, not only for the environment but also for health, as they burn more cleanly than open fires, producing heat yet low emissions. A newly built stove was taken into use this month by a woman in Quibala, Cuanza Sul.

Quibala Agricultural Fair |
|
Agricultural Fairs showcase the excellent results achieved by our Women's Farmers’ Club projects as well as cooperatives, farming organisations and others. Quibala Agricultural Fair is one of the most important in Cuanza Sul. Farmers Clubs Cuanza Sul displayed a wide variety of produce at this 4th edition, which ran from 17-19 December.

Farming in a drought
Our Farmer Field Schools in Bibala, part of the Integrated Social Project in Namibe Province, have been enjoying great success despite continued drought in the region. Here at Mphatelo Farmers Field School, maize and sweet potato are growing well, and aubergine is being harvested. Other crops cultivated in the model fields have already been harvested for home consumption and for sale.

|
A lot has happened in the past month in our project to increase access to water in Cunene, part of the Strengthening of Resilience and Food and Nutritional Security in Angola (FRESAN) programme.
Training local Water and Sanitation Groups, as above, promotes local ownership and future sustainability of the project. Members of Water and Sanitation Groups also received kits to help them in their work.

Well-building and youth employment go hand in hand at the project. The Water Brigades, composed of young people from the participatoing communities, help construct wells, water tanks and water systems, as here in Canuno in Oncocua.
|
|
|
|
|
|
Refurbished wells save lives. They also save precious time and effort. Four trucks brought material to improve a total of 12 wells, two going to Naulila and two to Ombala-yo-Mungu. 12 communities will soon have safe drinking water and shorter distances to fetch it.

Integrated Community Project |
|
The Integrated Community Project Huila and Namibe organised the final staff meeting for 2021 at the TAAG Village in Lubango, the capital of Huíla Province. All components of the project were represented and all project leaders took part. As ever, Covid-19 prevention measures were in place. Results from 2021 were celebrated and staff looked forward to 2022.
