Russia continues its creeping occupation policy towards Georgia through the puppet regime of South Ossetia. At the end of November, the so-called “parliament” of South Ossetia presented information on the work of the commission on delimitation and demarcation of the “state border of South Ossetia with Georgia”. Based on the “findings” of the chief specialist presenting the new outlook of the “state border”, the current version of the “border” lines are outdated and do not favor South Ossetia. In reference to the newly “discovered” map of the South Ossetian Autonomous Oblast (disbanded in 1990), the “Commision” drew new “border” line coordinates on the map which go deeper into Tbilisi-controlled territories.
In the screenshot below, taken from the video recording of the meeting, the orange line indicates the current administrative boundaries of the South Ossetia/Tskhinvali region and the purple line indicates the new “border” line set out by the so-called Commission. Only in this section, shown in the picture, the Kremlin-backed regime will further occupy 30 km2 of the Tbilisi-controlled territory, including some important road passes and strategic heights.
Thus, Georgia might now be facing a real threat of losing control over an additional 200 km2, an area larger than Batumi, Kutaisi, and Rustavi (Georgia’s biggest cities after Tbilisi) combined.
