Day Visits to Keswick and the Lake District
Cumbria Police are reminding all visitors to the Lake District National Park who come on a day visit to respect the local communities and the environment - "Social distancing must be observed at all times, vehicles must be parked legally and considerately and visitors must take their rubbish away to be disposed of safely and responsibly."
Teams from the Lake District National Park Authority, the National Trust and Forestry England are patrolling car parks each day across the Lake District to provide a current status of how busy they are and information about toilets. Please avoid any that are marked as red.
You can help us create a safer Lake District for our communities and other visitors.
- Go somewhere new, have a few ideas of different places to visit in case you arrive somewhere and it's busy.
- Don't park anywhere outside a car park place, emergency vehicles may need to travel at speed down a road, and roadside parking creates problems for them. Don't park across a gate, our farmers are busy and need to get to their animals at all times.
- Keep to social distancing. When you park at a car park, try to pay online if possible, or wait in your car until the pay machine is free. Maintain distance from other people.
- Return home each evening. Overnight stays are not permitted. Don't risk a fine and make sure you return to your home each night.
