Happenings - Growing in 2019

October 11, 2019

This Week in Worship

This coming Sunday is the Eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost. Please be with us as we worship God in spirit and in truth.  Click here to preview the text we will be using in worship for this Sunday.

October 19 Blessing of the Animals and Blood Drive

We have two exciting events coming up on Saturday, October 19.  We will once again invite people from our community to bring their pets for a Blessing of the Animals at 10 am that day.

Also, we will host our second Blood Drive as Blood Assurance has sent out a notice in real need of blood to help save lives.  Their blood mobile will be on our campus from 8 am to noon on that day.  Please sign up in advance by clicking here as it helps tremendously in planning.

So work hard over the next few weeks to get the word out to your neighbors, coworkers, family and friends.

People in the Pews

Since this is planned as a monthly feature in Memorial Happenings, to set the example, here is a bit about me.

Anxious to come into the world, I was born two months premature, resulting in my blindness as an infant.  Since I grew up without sight, being blind is as normal for me as seeing is for you.  I do the same things most people do, but sometimes in different ways.  Because I’m very comfortable with being blind, if you have specific questions concerning blindness, please don’t hesitate to ask.

I consider Nashville home, as I’ve lived here more than anywhere else.  Retired from teaching, most of my students being adults who were blind/visually impaired, I still teach on occasion and am active with nonprofit organizations.  My husband of ten years and I enjoy living in east Nashville and share our love and home with four very active, wonderful, small dogs and three awesome cats!  I’m also the proud stepmom to two grown daughters.

I enjoy cooking and some say I’ve been obsessed with my multicookers: two instant pots, a stand alone air fryer and an air fryer toaster oven.  Learning to knit when I was six years old, but not doing it for over forty years, I started knitting again two years ago and belong to a local knitting group.

I became Lutheran in the early ninetys and discovered Memorial Lutheran Church at the end of May of this year.  I’ve felt very welcomed by the members I’ve already met and look forward to meeting and getting to know more of you!  I appreciate the opportunity to take part in our worship services and want to be an active member of our congregation!

New Worship Leadership

We have updated our worship leadership schedule as we have some new volunteers for many of the positions.  This is VERY exciting in the life of a church as the more people are involved in worship leadership, the stronger our sense of community is together.  Click here to check out the new schedule and be sure and mark your calendars accordingly if you are on the list for a specific Sunday.  And be sure and welcome our new leaders and thank them for their service to our church.

Save the Date

November 3 - Launching of the German Speaking Service

New Setting of Amazing Grace

We will begin using a new worship guide on September 8 and included in that will be a new musical setting of the text of Amazing Grace.  We will be using it as the Hymn of Praise for the coming months.  It is based on a choral setting that Pastor Joel composed and we wanted to give you a chance to practice it before we begin using it!  Click here to download the new worship guide and click here for an audio setting to listen to and sing along with.  The string sounds are the melody.

Children's Choir

Rehearsals are after worship on each Sunday afternoon except the Sundays when they lead in worship.  If you have interested children or know of any in the neighborhood, please encourage them to come and join in the fun!  Please contact Lauren for the official rehearsal schedule each month as the calendar is subject to change.
