From our Executive Director:

I wish for Peace and Happiness to all that read this. These are difficult times we are all going through right now. We here at the carousel welcome all people who enter our doors with love and peace for a beautiful future for all.

It is with great excitement we announce our reopening! On June 11th, at 10:00 am, we will open to welcome the public back into our beautiful building. We are busy making sure your visit is both safe and enjoyable. A few changes have been made while you were away. You will notice our carousel a lot brighter as we added hundreds of new lights on the sweeps. The downstairs museum space is now complete with walls, lighting, and signage to display our museum pieces properly. Our upstairs museum space is transforming into our new Our Story space. It is not complete yet but will be very soon. You will see Yun Hsiang, our next animal to go onto the carousel, displayed proudly in the lobby. His animal party was delayed due to the shutdown, so we are working on getting that rescheduled.

The other changes you will see when you visit, are due to our new guidelines we must live by during Phase 2. I encourage you to read through our Phase 2 COVID-19 Procedures and Expectations on our website: https://albanycarousel.com/covid-procedures-and-expectations/

Please keep in mind we must limit how many people we have in the building at one time, so please come with patience and grace while we work to get the guests in and out of the building as quickly as possible. We are asking that you wear a mask. We will be wearing one as well to protect you so we would love for you to help protect us. We have Thunder the Bison masks for sale in the Gift Shop if you want to pick one up while you’re here.

This shutdown was very difficult for us financially here at the carousel. All rentals had to be canceled as well as we have had to cancel our carnival in August and the Kentucky Derby in September. We are hopeful that we will be able to hold our Festival of Wreaths in November as that is a big fundraiser for us. We are thankful for the Giving Tuesday and Shutdown Support fundraisers we had going during this time. Your support was and is very appreciated.

I look forward to seeing you as you return to the carousel and spend some time in our building that brings so much joy to all.

Take care of yourself and as always, thanks for supporting the Albany Historic Carousel & Museum!

Peggy Burris

Executive Director
