Vol. 14, June 2025

It’s been a full and exciting June for Harding’s summer abroad programs. This month, we’ve had seven different groups exploring the world—HIZ, HUF, HUG, College of Business Abroad, AADI, SURF, and Scholars Abroad. From ancient ruins and museum visits to hot air balloon rides and hands-on research, each program has made the most of its time abroad. Read on to see what each group has been up to during their June adventures!

HIZ

Harding in Zambia

This month, the HIZ group enjoyed the beauty of Livingstone, Zambia, home of Victoria Falls. Students whitewater rafted the Zambezi River, hand-fed elephants, and relaxed at the incredible Avani Resort. From Avani, students walked to Victoria Falls multiple times, witnessing the falls at peak flow—truly living up to its name: “the smoke that thunders.” For the thrill seekers, students paired up and swung out over the Batoka Gorge. These experiences provided a much-needed break from class and captured the stunning natural beauty of Zambia.

HUF

Harding University in Florence

The HUF group spent June soaking up Italian culture both in and out of the classroom. They went horseback riding through the Tuscan countryside, visited a local coffee museum, and took a painting class led by former HUF director Robbie Shackelford. Their travels also took them south to Rome, Paestum, Naples, and more—giving students a deeper look at Italy’s ancient history and modern life.

HUG

Harding University in Greece

June was full of variety for the HUG group as they continued exploring both ancient and modern aspects of Greek culture. They visited the historic plains of Marathon, took part in Greek dancing lessons, and ended the month with a trip to Egypt. There, they toured pyramids and temples, rode camels, cruised the Nile, and even had the option to take a hot air balloon ride. It was a month that blended travel, history, and adventure.

College of Business Abroad

The College of Business Abroad program wrapped up in early June after a busy three and a half weeks. Following their time in London, the group visited Oxford for a tour of the MINI plant, then finished their travels in Paris. Throughout this tour, they visited cultural sites and connected classroom concepts to real-world global business.

AADI

Art, Architecture & Design International

The AADI group kicked off June in Florence, Italy, before heading to Greece, where they visited Athens, Corinth, Delphi, and more while staying at the HUG campus. From there, they spent time in Spain—exploring cities like Córdoba and Barcelona—before finishing their tour in Paris, France. The program gave students the chance to experience art, architecture, and design across four countries and cultures in just four weeks.

SURF

Summer Undergraduate Research in Florence

The SURF group settled into life in Florence, where they’ve been assisting with research at a local hospital while earning class credit. Outside the lab, they’ve explored the city and taken trips to places like Rome and the Casentino Valley. It’s been a unique mix of research, learning, and cultural discovery.

Scholars Abroad

The Scholars Abroad program gave incoming freshmen a two-week introduction to college life—with a Greek twist. The group stayed at the HUG campus and visited Athens, Corinth, Delphi, Meteora, Sounion, Crete, and Santorini, experiencing both the history and beauty of Greece. Along the way, students formed friendships, got a taste of study abroad, and had a chance to reflect on what lies ahead as they prepare for their first semester of college this fall.

If you or someone you know is hoping to study abroad next year, now is the time to make a move—space is going fast! Spring 2026 programs (HUG, HUF, and HULA) are already full and have waitlists, and Summer 2026 programs are starting to fill up quickly—HIZ, for example, has just one spot remaining.
