You give your best advice.
Then you hear the words.
They make you feel great.
“You’re Right”
But there is a problem.
Let me explain.
In this scenario, who is right?
You.
When coaching seek the opposite.
You want them to be right.
Switch from advice-giving to summarising.
- “I heard you say X.”
- “I understand the problem to be Y.”
- “I’m hearing X is important for you…”
The response:
“That’s right”
The subtle shift indicates progress.
It confirms their own understanding.
And yours too.
Everyone is right.
This builds connection.
Opening the door for change.
Try it out this week.
