Message from Fr. Mike for Sunday, Oct. 2 |

|
|
To all our “beloved” of St. Philip Neri Parish,
May the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all …. I thank my God every time I remember you, praying with joy in my prayers for you … Fr. Mike
“Do not grieve over the temptations you suffer. When the Lord intends to bestow a particular virtue on us, he permits us to first to be tempted by the opposite vice. Therefore, look upon every temptation as an invitation to grow in a particular virtue … and a promise by God that you will be successful … if only you stand fast”. - St. Philip Neri
These are the wise – and encouraging – words of the patron of our Parish. It seems that he has a realistic and experiential grasp of life. Nothing comes easy! To be successful in any venture, takes focus and effort, determination, and perseverance. But - as St. Philip ends his words of encouragement … “if only you stand fast”!
These past weeks, we, the parishioners of St. Philip Neri Parish have been invited to respond to the many ministries in the Parish. To have a successful and unified Parish, it takes the generous hands and hearts of many people. The temptation is to leave it to someone else – as we feel we are too busy and over-committed already. However, our first self-judgment ought to be, “I do have time and talents and treasures; I am a “gift” to this Parish Family”. Please remember: There is a place for everyone, and everyone has a place … in this family.
Please note: There are two special “moments” during the Eucharistic celebration when we need your generous presence - to carry in the Cross in the Opening Procession, and to bring up the Eucharistic gifts (bread – wine – water, and the collection) at the Offertory.
Fr. Mike’s invitation and expectation - that each family takes this opportunity to share yourselves – your blessings to the Parish Family. The ushers or welcomers will explain to you what needs to be done, and when. Please don’t wait to be asked or cajoled. This is a wonderful opportunity for you, and your family, to actively participate in our Eucharistic celebration. This is also a special time for you to share these services with your children and grandchildren. I believe this is what St. Philip Neri meant when he said, “if only you stand fast”!
Once again, I say a big and hearty THANK YOU for all who have already responded to the Liturgical and Pastoral Ministries. We will gather the participants of each ministry soon – to meet and greet each other and to learn what is expected of each ministry. God is good … all the time.
Wherever you go, go with God. Whenever you go, make a difference.
Praise be Jesus Christ … and Mary Immaculate.
St. Philip Neri ... pray for us.
St. Eugene de Mazenod ... pray for us.
St. Kateri Tekakwitha ... pray for us.
Fr. Mike

A Prayer for Ukraine
God of peace and justice, we pray for the people of Ukraine today. We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons. We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow, that your spirit of comfort would draw near to them. We pray for those with power over war or peace, for wisdom, discernment and compassion to guide their decisions. Above all, we pray for all your precious children at risk and in fear that you would hold and protect them. We pray in the name of Jesus the Prince of Peace. Amen.

Hi Everyone!
Not only did we have a GREAT summer as far as weather goes, but we are now also being blessed with a phenomenal fall as well! God is good! As we flip the calendar over to the month of October, our daytime temperatures continue to be well above normal, which makes spending time outdoors SO enjoyable. The leaves are now starting to turn those gorgeous shades of yellow, orange and red, and when you add sunshine, blue skies, and warm temperatures, we have everything needed for some gorgeous, awe-inspiring fall walks and drives!
Okay, let's get down to the business of some important new items for you as well as a few reminders. The first thing that's new is that I have now divided the Newsletter items into two categories - What's Happening in our Parish, and What's Happening in our Diocese - hopefully to help make it easier for you to find the items you might be looking for!
Now let's see what else is new:
- As mentioned last week, we are offically proceeding with the St. Philip Neri Parish Pictorial Directory and are now all set up to take your on-line bookings! Not only will you get a FREE PIctorial Directory for your participation and a chance to order some professional photos of you/your family (if you so choose), but more importantly you will be able to start putting some names to faces of parishioners you may not know! Check out all the details directly below, and click on the link provided to book your photo sitting appointment, starting TODAY, Friday, Sept. 30! - Fall is now upon us and our Art and Environment Committee is gearing up to decorate the church for this colourful season! - Hopefully by now you have now had a chance to check out all the interesting Parish Liturgical Ministries, Ministry of Care, and Sacramental Prep opportunities that are available for you to help out with! We would love to have all the Ministry Sign-up Forms in to the Parish Office by NEXT Friday, Oct. 7. God bless you for your willing spirit - your help is so appreciated!

Have a wonderful weekend, and week ahead, everyone! We hope you were able to participate in or spend some time reflecting on the importance of uniting with our Indigenous sisters and brothers on National Truth and Reconciliation Day. St. Philip Neri Parish Pictorial Directory - UPDATE!
Photo Sittings: Nov. 14 - 23
- Do you ever see people in church and wonder what their names are?
- Do you know the names of people outside your age group?
- Have you ever heard an announcement in church regarding a parishioner and you couldn't put a face to the name?
- Are you new to the church and wish you had something to help you get to know people and their names?
If you have said yes to any of these questions, we have a great solution for you! We have resumed our plans for our new Parish Pictorial Directory in order to help us acquaint ourselves with one another and strengthen the bond of our faith community - and we would love to have you/your family as part of it!
Everyone who has their picture taken will receive a FREE Parish Pictorial Directory to help you learn those names and faces! AND, if you haven't had a professional family portrait taken in a long time, you will also have the opportunity to purchase additional family portraits at less than studio prices to share with family and frieinds!
Note: If you have already had your picture taken just prior to the start of the pandemic two years ago, you may simply have that photo go into the new Directory and there is nothing more for you to do. If, like most of us, though, your photo sitting was cancelled due to the pandemic, OR if you wish to get a new photo taken, be sure to book a new appointment. Here's how:
The photo sitting dates are from Monday, November 14 to Wednesday November 23 any time between 1:30 - 8:30 pm on each of those days, with the exception of Saturday, Nov. 19, when the times are between 9:30 am - 4:30 pm, and NO BOOKINGS on Sunday, Nov. 20. You may go ahead and book your spot, online, beginning this weekend by simply clicking on the link below and following a few simple instructions. Unless you do not have access to a computer, ALL bookings will be done on-line, beginning this weekend, on Friday, September 30. We can't wait for everyone to finally have their photos taken and the new Directory to start taking shape! Just click on the link below and grab your preferred date and time before someone else does!
Note: Only those folks who do not have access to a computer will be able to book their appointments, beginning the afternoon of Friday, September 30, by calling Joan Robertson, at (306) 222-9914, or Bonnie Klimek, at (306) 230-2756, but we do hope to keep those calls to a very bare minimum.
Remember - your Directory is free just for participating but we need all of you to participate! This Directory will embrace young and old, families, couples and single parishioners. You are ALL members of our church family, and our Directory is not complete without you! Thanks for your support and participation in this great project!

There are also sign up forms for these activities and the goal is to have all the sign-up forms returned by Friday, October 7. These forms will then be organized and the next step will be to share them with the main facilitators, schedule what is needed and plan for an active, supportive Parish, spreading the joy of Christ. For additional information, please contact Shirley Hyshka, Pastoral Associate, in the Parish Office. Please note: You are also invited to email Shirley, at s.hyshka@stphilipneriparish.ca, if that works easier for you to sign up for these ministries. Thank you!
Sacrament of First Reconciliation: The first class is Sunday, October 2 in the church right after the Mass. Pre-registration is necessary to ensure that enough materials are prepared for each family. The next two classes are October 16 and October 31 and both of these are right after Mass as well. Thank you to all those who have registered! Please note: The preparation for First Communion will be in Spring 2023.
Sacrament of Baptism: The next dates for the celebration of Baptism are Sunday, October 23 and Sunday, November 20. Pre-registration is necessary.
RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults): Are you interested in becoming Catholic? Are you searching, pondering, or asking questions about the Catholic faith? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a journey of weekly sessions, where you will prepare to receive the sacraments, learn what it means to be Catholic and take your place as a fully participating member of the Catholic Church. If you are interested in exploring the possibility of becoming a Catholic, please contact Cindy Lewans at cindy.lewans@gmail.com. We invite you to learn what the Church teaches, and be introduced to some of our Parish members. These sessions are also opportunities for you, and others who you may wish to invite, to ask questions you may have about the Church!

BAA Prayer
Oh Lord, giver of life and source of our freedom, we are reminded that Yours is “the earth in its fullness; the world and those who dwell in it” (Psalm 24:1) We know that it is from your hand that we have received all that we have, all that we are, and all that we will be. Gracious and loving God, we understand that you call us to be the stewards of your abundance, the caretakers of all you have entrusted to us. Help us always to use your gifts wisely and teach us to share them generously. May our faithful stewardship bear witness to the love of Christ in our lives. We pray this with grateful hearts in Jesus’ name. Amen.

We keep in our prayers ...
- Daryl Ackerman and Chyanna Goodwin, who were married here at our Parish this past weekend. May God bless them with a long, strong, happy and faith-filled marriage!
- All those who live in our Maritime provinces and in Florida, may they have their electricity restored soon and may they receive the physical, emotional, financial and spiritual support they need as they begin the slow process of rebuilding all that they have lost in the Fiona and Ian hurricanes.
- Our Parish community, as we prayerfully reflect on our participation in the 2022 Bishop's Annual Appeal, and how we might bring hope and faith to the world through our prayer, service and financial support.

Season of Creation
Concludes this Tues. October 4
The Season of Creation concludes this Tuesday, Oct. 4, on the Feast of St Francis of Assisi. We pray:
- O God of the poor, help us to reach out to the abandoned and forgotten of this earth, so precious in your eyes. Bring healing to our lives, that we may protect the world and not prey on it, that we may sow beauty, not pollution and destruction. Give us hearts of love, to care for your creation and all who share it.
- May our faith in God’s presence in creation inspire us to do what we can to protect the earth.
- Let us resolve to pray and act daily for the welfare of our planet.
In these final days of this Season of Creation, this symbol of God’s Spirit calls us to listen to the voice of creation. For more information, click on the button below:
