Pennsylvania's Department of Environmental Protection recently announced it has "detected an unusually high infection rate of the dangerous and rare Deer Tick Virus (DTV) in adult tick samples recently taken from" a public park in Clearfield County, PA. Among the tick samples tested at this location, 92%, or 23 out of 25 sampled ticks, were positive for DTV.
This story serves as a reminder that the presence of ticks carrying dangerous pathogens are present year-round, especially in places where the temperature stays above 30F. Additionally, awareness and prevention are key in locations with high concentrations of tick-borne diseases. In 2021, a Pennsylvania organization partnered with Invisible International to create a prevention awareness campaign. Learn more about it here.
