A lot of people have been asking me, how is the pandemic going and if Uruguayans are getting vaccinated. I was going to update you here but there was so much to tell, I ended up writing four 😮 articles so that I could share detail. Plus I wanted to give you a peek at the information that we carry around on our phones here in Uruguay. So, the big questions I’m getting asked are…
Question: I saw that Uruguay was doing really badly with deaths and cases a few months ago. What’s the situation like right now?
Still no firm news. On July 18, in an exchange with a journalist, the president mentioned our spring (spring being Sept-November) as a possibility. This echoes what the Minster of Health said back in May. Our translation of the president’s words:
“One of the hardest hit sectors that we have to help reactivate is tourism, if we can, and if all this that we have been experiencing and the new variants [of the coronavirus] allow it, we are thinking of opening the border in the spring for some people who are immunised.”
You know you can count on me to zipping you a mail right away, once there is news. Just make sure that you’ve set your preferences to include ‘travel’ and/or ‘moving’.
