Hi, gorgeous!

I'm still on a high from last week's book party, which was a lot of fun, and also left me feeling really deeply touched.

In my life before chronic illness (LBCI?) I was always out and about, doing lotsa stuff, producing events, jet-setting all over the planet, etc. And now, I have had to really shift my career to things I can do from home (write books, make videos, etc.) and sometimes it can get lonely, and relationships with people can kind of morph into words on a screen.

But so many people from many different parts of my life came out to celebrate, and it made me feel so special. There was a friend I went to raves with 25 years ago, a friend who worked at the boutique I owned 20 years ago in Iowa, a friend from the tech company I worked at 15 years ago, my very first neighbor from when I moved to NYC 10 years ago. In fact, the venue is owned by a friend who worked at my most recent business, then went on to become a huge success in her own right.

Anyways, I'm not trying to take you on a navel-gazing journey with me. I just want to express how rich life is, and how special it felt to have a moment where it was so clear how blessed I have been. I'm full of gratitude for that moment, and for this life.

(The two pictures above are me, before the event started, thanking everyone who worked the event and telling them the story of how the book came to be–and of a stolen moment with me and my monkey during the event. She is the reason for the book and my biggest inspiration in life. I am so lucky.)

Thanks for listening. On to your five things for the week. âŹ¬

    A journal that says
    PRACTICE TIP
    1. journaling

One of the things people keep mentioning to me is the tip in the book about journaling (#059 if you're following along.) Journaling is one of those things we all kinda know we should do, and might do sometimes, but it's hard to find the time.

Anyways, several people have mentioned that they got out their pens and did it, which is so rad! I think part of what helps is having a "way in," or a strategy for writing. Staring at a blank page can be kinda intimidating.

So here are some options I mention in the book:

    • Write a progress report about existing goals
    • Make a list of your biggest hopes / dreams
    • Record something funny that happened to you (this is basically what David Sedaris' journals are)
    • And of course, gratitude lists (which are almost always how I start or end my own journal entires)

However you chose to do it, I think journaling can be a real gift to yourself: it's about reflection–a gift of attention to yourself. Happy journaling!

    2. couples therapy đź‘Ą

"People do better with the truth than without it. People underestimate themselves and spend unnecessary energy protecting themselves from truths that they fear will kill them, and actually will make them stronger and make them happier."

I have joined the ranks of people who are obsessed with the docu-series Couples Therapy, which follows real couples on their journey with a real therapist.

Like many others, I started out thinking I "got" one member of the couple more than another, but was so wrong. It's startlingly intimate and the lessons are broadly applicable. These couples are super unique, but they are also all of us.

(Warning: Don't confuse this show with a reality show of the same name that is scripted garbage. This is the Showtime show, of which there is only one season so far. Don't accidentally pay YouTube $17 for the other show like I did. #whoops)

I don't know how to describe this. it's feathery, organic, and blue and yellow. it's beautiful.

    3. appletini, microscopic pics

🍏🍸I found this article to be a fascinating overview of cocktail culture from the last twenty years, and I'm not gonna lie, it left me wanting to drink a cosmo: Who Ordered the Appletini? The Origin Story of an Essential 90's Cocktail (Eater)

🔬This collection of images from the Nikon Small World contest is soooo cool. I actually think my favorite, despite it sounding weird, might be the dying leaf? Because it definitely looks like something else. (By the way, the abstract feathery image I included here is crystallized amino acids.) Photographing the Microscopic (Atlantic)

    4. free video + lightning fast tips

This week's free guided meditation video is a 10 Minute Body Scan Meditation. I love body scans and I hope you find it helpful.

A post I wrote for Red Tricycle: 3 Proven Stress Techniques That Take Less Than 60 Seconds (yes, really!)

GenPink said something nice about my book: "This is more than a self-help book. It’s a book that’s going to get us through the end of the year..." I hope so! :)

    HEY THAT'S ACTUALLY USEFUL TECH
    5. ML, AI, AR, ASL, oh my!

You know how there are so many fake reviews out there? Fakespot is a free ML (machine learning) service where you can enter a product URL and it rates how "real" it thinks the reviews are. I love that.

StorySign is an app that uses AI (artificial intelligence) and AR (augmented reality) to translate kids' books into sign language. My niece Quinn uses ASL (American Sign Language) to communicate, and I can't wait to watch her use this.

That was too many acronyms, my bad.

I'm headed to the Berkshires this weekend to do a retreat learning about how past traumas live on in our bodies; it's part of my quest to become a trauma-informed meditation teacher. I'm looking forward to expanding my mind. Whatever you are up to this weekend, I hope you have moments of peace and joy!

    Love,
