As an authentic haven dedicated to art and creative expression, KALPA Gallery envisions a destination where art, nature and the human experience converge. Founded by artist and designer Olga Niescier in the ancient town of Volterra, Tuscany, where the richness of the Etruscan civilisation equals the incredible vastness of wild nature, KALPA creates an immersive and ever-evolving art experience that inspires visitors to explore, reflect, and connect with the inner self.

KALPA’s historical venue in the XV-century Palazzo Bonomini conjures an elegant atmosphere of warm neutral tones and all-encompassing wabi-sabi sensibility, celebrating the beauty of imperfection and the transience of life. Conceived as a sanctuary inviting visitors into an art-exclusive experience, the Gallery pioneers authentic and art-led living environments, designed to resonate elegantly with the exhibited works to give the visitor both the feeling of a home and the wonder of being in a timeless place.

The past and the present, uncovered traces left by the passage of time and contemporary art research, coexist side by side within the Gallery. KALPA's exhibition rooms unfold as an intimate and meditative journey punctuated by harmonious intersections of architectural lines to evoke a feeling of spatial continuity throughout its two floors.

During the course of the last five years, the Gallery has been engaging in a project of major restoration of the entire premises, following the vision of art director Olga Niescier. Intent on safeguarding the original partitions within the building, the restoration project encompassed the comprehensive reorganisation of the interior spaces along with the unveiling of ancient walls, niches and frescos, secrets and whispers hidden within the architecture.

The Palazzo Bonomini restoration project was informed by the thoughtful use of local stone and natural materials, along with an approach of ‘discover-and-integrate’ to the conservation of the wall textures, skillfully undertaken by the Tuscan restorer Cristiano Sabelli. While protecting the healthiness of the historical surfaces, KALPA also chose to incorporate MATTEOBRIONI raw-earth finishes, which are soft and warm to the touch, and sustainable for the planet.

The Gallery collaborates with emerging and established international artists from diverse cultural backgrounds and disciplines, welcoming organic forms, precious techniques, and outstanding skills. The overall art collection evokes a sense of emotional intimacy, appreciation for natural processes, and an inclination towards the characteristics of irregularity and imperfection. Resonating with KALPA's core values, each exhibited artwork embeds concepts of minimalism and non-finito, together with an instinctive, earthbound approach to creation.

Crafted from an organic blend of materials - alabaster, marble, bronze, clay, raw earth, wood, glass, oil, and mixed media, art objects are presented to visitors to become part of their everyday lives.

The interiors are spaces of vibrant atmospheres, where international and Tuscan creative experiences are invited to interweave. As an art gallery in the ancient town of Volterra, KALPA is dedicated to fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of creative expression while paying homage to the town’s rich cultural and natural heritage. By providing a platform for multidisciplinary exhibitions, the Gallery encourages contemporary creation, embracing a vision for a life in harmony with art.

Around the concept of living with art, this new sophisticated volume presents a selection of stunning private interiors enriched by art, laying emphasis on the beauty of the overall atmosphere of the spaces featured and the inner nature of their owners, be they passionate international art collectors, architects or interior designers.
