Wood Badge is Scouting's premier training course. It's the ultimate leadership training experience designed to meet the leadership needs for all Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Varsity Scout, and Venturing leaders as well as council and district leaders and Scouting professionals.

Lord Baden-Powell originally designed it so that Scouters could learn, in as practical a way possible, the skills and methods of Scouting. It is first and foremost, learning by doing.

Wood Badge has evolved into the core leadership skills training course for the BSA. The Wood Badge course focuses on strengthening every volunteer's ability to work with and lead groups of youth and adults and is less focused on outdoor skills, which are more effectively addressed in other courses.

MORE TRAINING INFORMATION

The "University fo Scouting" is a Supplemental Training opportunity for all adult Scouters. It is the only time during the year where you can find, all in one place, the widest variety of training opportunities in all program areas (Cub Scouts, Scouts-BSA, Venturing, Commissioners, District and Council Scouters). Whether you are new to the program or a veteran, you will find topics of interest. However, Basic Leader Specific Training is not part of the U of S format.

This all day Saturday event is presented as a series of class sessions much like a typical school day. Adults can register to attend the courses that are of interest to them. Two all-day courses for youth will be presented.

Outdoor skills are critical to the success of the Scouting program. This training provides leaders with the basic outdoor skills information needed to run a program well and help their Scouts succeed. The skills taught are based on the outdoor skills found in the Cub Scout and Boy Scout Handbooks. Please be prepared for any type of weather as you will be outdoors much of the time.

Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) Cub Scout leaders who are interested in adding a camping component to their Pack activities are required to have at least one BALOO trained adult on every Cub Scout den or pack overnight outdoor event - including Pack Camping and Webelos Den overnighters. BALOO training sets a pack up to carry out a successful camping experience for Scouts.

BALOO training is now comprised of two components - an online component, and a practical, hands-on, overnight component. Both components must be completed to qualify as a "Trained" Cub Scout outdoor leader, and to receive the BALOO recognition patch. [READ MORE]
