As we enter this Holy month of April, the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is really the centerpiece of the Christian faith — one that offers forgiveness, hope and redemption to humanity. Scriptures tell the story of Jesus’ willing sacrifice on the cross to save the sins of every man, woman and child who has and who will ever live.

John 11:25-26 says, “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

This question raised by Jesus of…Do you believe this…,gives us the opportunity to really look deep inside ourselves and ask ourselves if we do really and truly believe in His cross and resurrection personally.

In Mark 8:31, Jesus told the disciples his death was forthcoming. It reads, “He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again.”

Jesus' teaching of his death to the disciples puzzled them at first. Some struggled to grasp just who the Son of Man was, why He had to die or what rising again truly meant.

Mark 9:32 reads, “But they did not understand what he meant and were afraid to ask him about it.

To God Be The Glory, Jesus knew they wouldn't understand, but telling them of the prediction of His death meant that He was asking them to fully believe and fully trust in Him. He was asking them to believe His word and trust that what was about to happen was truly destined to take place for the salvation of the world.

The Historic Pleasant Green Baptist Church Missionary Society assisted the Lexington Rescue Mission on April 4, 2025 by providing and serving lunch to their clients.

The Lexington Rescue Mission is in the process of moving to a larger facility to accommodate it's expanding programs and it’s continual growth of clients. Sister Delores Spencer scheduled and made arrangements for our outreach service. Thank you to Sisters Phylis Bates, Elizabeth Brooks, Nancy Holmes, Shirley Jones, Elizabeth Taylor and Brother Charles Jones for their participation in making this day of service a success!

Welcome to the 40 Year Christians' Cooking Corner! 

Here we will feature recipes from the 40 Year Christian Group. This week's recipe was submitted by Sister Alyce Emerson from Nutrition Education Program UK Cooperative Extension Service.

Everything Tuna Melts

Ingredients

• 3 cans (5 ounces each) tuna in water, drained
• 1 stalk celery, diced
• 1/2 small onion, diced
• 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
• 5 whole-wheat mini bagels, cut in half
• 1 large or 2 small apples, cored and sliced thinly
• 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
• 2 teaspoons everything bagel seasoning

Directions

1. Preheat the oven broiler on low.
2. Wash hands with warm water and soap, scrubbing at least 20 seconds.
3. Wash fresh produce under cool running water, using a vegetable brush to scrub veggies with a firm surface. Dry and cut to prepare for this recipe.
4. In a bowl, combine the tuna, celery, onion, and mayonnaise; mix well.
5. On a baking sheet, toast each side of the bagels under the broiler.
6. Divide and spread the tuna mixture on each of 10 bagel halves. Top with apple slices and cheese. Sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning.
7. Return the pan under the broiler for 3 to 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted.
   Serve immediately.
8. Refrigerate leftovers within 2 hours.

Why Career Goal?: Art is something that comes naturally to me. My artwork is often painting (e.g. oil
pastels) and fabric.

What do you want your church family to know about you?:
I enjoy working with kids. I enjoy being in a learning environment. To teach is to learn twice. I am currently working with students at Coventry Oaks Elementary School (school day) and Sandersville Elementary School (after school program). I also like working for GOD’s people at our church. I am on the streaming committee (media team), sang
in the Christmas Cantata and organized our church clean up and Town Hall 2023. I have been active at HPGMBC my whole life and I am passionate about us reigniting our Young Adult programming.

Is there anything special your church can do for you?
I am trying to get a better understanding of how to incorporate all of the essentials of life into my work and my leisure activities. For example, I’m trying to better understand the role of agriculture in my life and in the life of our community. From food to clothes to industries, agriculture has a part. I’d like to
learn more and I’d like to take that learning journey with my church family; particularly our youth.

I also hosted a painting-a-pot activity. Art can be relaxing. It’s great for mental health. I’d like to do something like this with my church family. I want us to try new things together.
Pray for me on how the gifts that I share with the community can be shared with our church. I love my church. I want to expand the ways I share my gifts with GOD’S people.

What do you want your church family to know about GOD?:
GOD IS! Period! That is as simple as I can put it. GOD is past, present and future. Multidimensional.
(GOD IS) Everything that our minds cannot process. GOD knows all. GOD sees all. GOD IS! That’s just the
basics. Just a reminder to those who may have forgotten: GOD IS!

Resilience When Stressed

To be resilient In stressful situations requires the ability to; Focus on self care, connect with others and practice mindfulness. Prioritize your physical wellbeing and engage in activities you enjoy. Build strong relationships, lean on your family and friends for emotional support and guidance. Connect with others who share your interests and seek professional and spiritual counseling when needed. Practice expressing gratitude for what you have and reflect on the positive aspects of your life. Find meaningful goals and work towards them to completion and learn from past experiences. Remember to avoid negative coping mechanisms and refrain from substances and engaging in behavior that threatens or worsens your mental health. Remember to take care of you!

FLU

Flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and sometimes the lungs. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death.

Flu shots are available at local pharmacies. Consult your physician regarding a flu vaccination.

RSV

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common, contagious virus that usually causes mild symptoms. In older adults and adults with certain underlying conditions, RSV can cause severe infections.

COVID-19

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Most people infected with the virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment. However, some will become seriously ill and require medical attention. Older people and those with underlying medical conditions like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, or cancer are more likely to develop serious illness. Anyone can get sick with COVID-19 and become seriously ill or die at any age.

The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is to be well informed about the disease and how the virus spreads. Protect yourself and others from infection by staying at least 1 metre apart from others, wearing a properly fitted mask, and washing your hands or using an alcohol-based rub frequently. Get vaccinated when it’s your turn and follow local guidance.

The virus can spread from an infected person’s mouth or nose in small liquid particles when they cough, sneeze, speak, sing or breathe. These particles range from larger respiratory droplets to smaller aerosols. It is important to practice respiratory etiquette, for example by coughing into a flexed elbow, and to stay home and self-isolate until you recover if you feel unwell.
