À propos de l’exposition
TECHNO WORLDS est une exposition-parcours à la croisée de la musique, de l’art, de la pop, des médias et des technologies qui propose une approche interdisciplinaire. Le titre fait référence à la scène techno multiforme, aux genres et aux projets politiques issus des sous-cultures des années 1980 à aujourd’hui, et retrace les processus d’appropriation culturelle et économique.
L’exposition sera présentée en première nord-américaine dans une forme réduite à Montréal du 13 mai au 19 juin au Centre PHI, à la Société des arts technologiques et au Goethe-Institut.
L’exposition composée de différents médiums tels que des œuvres d'art, photos, films, sculptures et installations sonores, sera proposée sous forme de parcours. Le public est ainsi invité à visiter les trois institutions.
Une occasion de célébrer l’art international à Montréal
Présenter cette exposition est une belle opportunité pour nos trois institutions d’unir nos forces et de célébrer ce que Montréal a à offrir sur la scène artistique et asseoir notre ville comme capitale culturelle. Ce parcours sera l’occasion de déambuler à travers nos lieux ainsi que dans les différents quartiers de Montréal.
Nos trois institutions sont reconnues autant ici comme à l’international pour notre engagement à promouvoir l’art et les cultures du monde. De son côté, le Goethe-Institut met en valeur la langue et la culture contemporaine allemande depuis 60 ans en entretenant de fortes collaborations culturelles internationales. Pour sa part, la SAT est un vrai carrefour culturel dédié à la culture numérique et met de l’avant l’apprentissage collectif depuis 25 ans reconnu à l’international. La SAT est à la fois moteur et vitrine des tendances en technologies immersives. Finalement, le Centre PHI est une institution multidisciplinaire où l'art contemporain et les nouvelles technologies se rencontrent depuis maintenant 10 ans. Reconnu sur la scène internationale pour sa présentation d’expositions immersives et sa grande agilité en prouesses technologiques, le Centre PHI est un lieu en constante évolution.
Événements en marge de l’exposition
PHI, la Société des arts technologiques et le Goethe-Institut célèbrent la culture techno avec Lena Willikens, dj et productrice allemande accompagnée par Kris Guilty et Gene Tellem, le 27 mai de 22h à 3h à la SAT.

Une discussion devant public prendra place à la suite de la projection du film documentaire If I Think of Germany at Night (The evolution of electronic dance music in Germany). Dennis Kastrup, modérateur de l’évènement, fera le pont entre Berlin et Montréal et entamera une discussion au sujet des débuts de la culture techno à Montréal. L'événement aura lieu le 7 juin au Centre PHI.

Bien ancré dans la culture québécoise, le Goethe-Institut Montréal fête ses 60 ans. Le Goethe-Institut est l’institut culturel de la République fédérale d’Allemagne actif au niveau mondial. Avec 157 instituts dans 98 pays, il promeut la connaissance de la langue allemande à l’étranger, entretient des collaborations culturelles internationales et transmet une image de l’Allemagne contemporaine. La SAT, c’est 25 ans de créativité, 25 ans d'imaginaire, 25 ans d'innovations. Fondée en 1996, la Société des arts technologiques est une organisation à but non lucratif dédiée à la culture numérique qui combine en ses murs les activités de centre d’artistes, de laboratoire de recherche, d’espace de diffusion et de centre de formation. La SAT est reconnue internationalement pour son rôle actif et précurseur dans le développement de technologies pour la création immersive, la réalité virtuelle et la téléprésence. Rencontre de savoirs, de curiosités et de talents multiples, la SAT est un lieu d’apprentissage collectif qui porte la promesse d’explorer la technologie pour lui insuffler plus de sens, de magie et d’humanité.
Fondé en 2012 par Phoebe Greenberg fêtant ainsi ses 10 ans, le Centre PHI se consacre à l’innovation aux frontières de la production créative et encourage la conception, le développement, la production et la présentation d’une grande variété de disciplines et de formes, avec un accent sur les technologies numériques et les nouveaux médias. Ses programmes et son architecture ont été conçus pour faire preuve d’agilité, d’adaptabilité et d’une grande capacité de production.
À la croisée de l’art, du cinéma, de la musique, du design et de la technologie, le Centre PHI travaille à étendre les lieux de la production créative et de la consommation de l’art en offrant une programmation unique, inclassable, engageante et en constante évolution. Les créations artistiques originales et éclectiques présentées au Centre, signées PHI ou provenant de la scène internationale, incluent des performances musicales, des projections, des expositions interactives, des installations d’artistes invités, des conférences et des ateliers.

About the exhibition
TECHNO WORLDS is an interdisciplinary exhibition at the intersection of music, art, pop, media, and technology. The title refers to the multifaceted techno scene, genres and political projects that emerged from the subcultures of the 1980s to present day, and traces the processes of cultural and economic appropriation.
The exhibition will have its North American premiere in a reduced form in Montreal from May 13 to June 19 at the PHI Centre, the SAT and the Goethe-Institut.
The exhibition - composed of various media such as artworks, photos, films, sculptures and sound installations - will be proposed in the form of a circuit. The public is invited to visit the three institutions.

Presenting this exhibition is a great occasion for our three institutions to join forces and celebrate what Montreal has to offer on the art scene and establish our city as a cultural capital. This exhibition will be an opportunity to wander through our venues as well as the different neighborhoods of Montreal.
Our three institutions are recognized both here and internationally for our commitment to promoting art and world cultures. The Goethe-Institut has been promoting the German language and contemporary culture for 60 years by maintaining strong international cultural cooperations. The SAT is a true cultural hub dedicated to digital culture and has been promoting collective learning for 25 years, recognized internationally. SAT is a place that holds the promise of exploring technology to infuse it with more meaning, magic and humanity. Finally, the PHI Centre is a multidisciplinary institution where contemporary art and new technologies meet since 10 years. Internationally recognized for its immersive exhibitions and its agility in technological prowess, the PHI Centre is a place in constant evolution.
Events in the margins of the exhibition
PHI, SAT and the Goethe-Institut will celebrate techno culture with German DJ and producer Lena Willikens accompanied by Kris Guilty and Gene Tellem on May 27 from 10pm to 3am at the SAT.

A panel discussion will take place following the screening of the documentary film If I Think of Germany at Night (The evolution of electronic dance music in Germany). Dennis Kastrup, moderator of the event, will bridge the gap between Berlin and Montreal and start a discussion about the beginnings of techno culture in Montreal. The event will take place on June 7th at the PHI Centre.
