The official St Pauls Carnival Parade Day may not be happening this year (you can read a statement from the Board in full as to the reasons why), but we can still expect thousands of people to take to the streets on Saturday 4 July to celebrate our city's African Caribbean culture.

The St Pauls neighbourhood will come alive with soundsystems, delicious food and drink and much more – all delivered by the local community. There are also a number of organised afterparties taking place at venues around the city, many of which you can find tickets for on Headfirst Bristol.

Importantly, the St Pauls Carnival Elders Brunch – which brings together older members of the St Pauls community, of which many have played a vital role in shaping both the Carnival and the local area over decades, who are treated to a brunch, live music and conversation – is going ahead on 4 July. St Pauls Carnival CIC says: "This special gathering is a moment to pause, reflect and give thanks to those whose vision, resilience and community spirit have shaped Carnival over the years. It celebrates not only individuals, but also legacy, culture and continuity."

The Big Ride was initiated by activists in who wanted to combine their love of cycling with support for the Palestinian people. A new nautical pup has been welcomed aboard Bristol Community Ferry Boats, with a Gromit sculpture installed today on the bow of Brigantia.

Bristol residents and visitors alike had grown used to seeing noble Gromit Franz cruising along the waterways, after the pup was kindly installed on the ferry boat following the success of the first Gromit Unleashed trail in 2013, a joint initiative by The Grand Appeal and Aardman to raise money for Bristol Children's Hospital.

With Franz retiring from his pedestal on the waterways, The Grand Appeal and Aardman have found a new pup to motor around Bristol Harbour.

Now, Wings Gromit has taken up the role as Brigantia's four-legged figurehead, bringing a fresh burst of colour and character to the waterways.

Franz was designed by charity patron, and co-founder of Aardman, Sir David Sproxton. After making the winning bid at the 2013 Gromit Unleashed auction, he kindly lent the sculpture to Bristol Community Ferry Boats for all to enjoy.

Members of the public can spot Wings aboard Brigantia, while passengers can choose to make a donation to Wallace & Gromit's Grand Appeal to support sick children and their families at Bristol Children's Hospital.

Bristol Bears have discovered their opponents for the 2026/27 Investec Champions Cup pool stage following Wednesday’s EPCR draw in Dublin.

Pat Lam’s men will face defending champions Union Bordeaux Bègles, Stormers, Racing 92 and Munster after being drawn in Pool 3 alongside Gloucester Rugby.

The fixture schedules for the Investec Champions Cup – including dates, venues, kick-off times and TV coverage – will be announced later this month.

In a change to previous seasons, in which the four highest-ranked clubs in each pool all automatically qualified for the Round of 16, only the top three teams from each Pool will automatically qualify.

The three highest-ranked clubs in each pool will automatically qualify, while the remaining four Round of 16 places will go to the four clubs with the highest number of match points across all pools, regardless of which Pool they are in.

EPCR is changing the system by which Offensive Bonus Points are awarded, awarding bonus points for attacking performance if a team scores three or more tries more than their opposition.

The purpose of this change is to reward teams who continue to play attacking rugby AND who remain resolute in defence once victory appears certain, effectively ensuring tournament matches stay competitive for longer.
