Each year, heat-related illnesses strike the unprepared. Prevention is key! Be prepared by acclimating to the environment for 3 to 5 days before going on an outdoor adventure; drinking plenty of fluids and eating a healthy diet beforehand; and continuing to drink fluids when outdoors on hot or humid days. Be sure to drink only when you’re thirsty to avoid overhydrating. Take extra rest breaks, especially if you are exercising strenuously.
For the 5th straight month, the Council has achieved membership growth. This includes nearly 30% growth in Cub Scout membership! We are very proud of our Scouts, volunteers, and staff for propelling the Council to a top ten council in the country when it comes to membership growth, retention rate, and unit growth!
With the success of the short-term camping program at Camp Workcoeman over the past two summers, we are excited to announce we will be renewing the program in 2023. We saw over 400 Scouts come through the programs at Workcoeman this summer. From SCUBA to merit badges from Day Camp to family camping we have A LA Carte program for Scouts at all levels.

On October 21st-23rd, 2022 hundreds of Scouts will descend on the Haddam Neck Fairgrounds and take part in the Council-wide fall camporee. The theme, patches, and more details to come soon. The Connecticut Scouter Podcast, or CSP for short, covers topics of interest for our Scouting families and leaders. Expect interesting interviews, camp highlights, fantastic advice, and good humor (the laughing kind, not the ice cream. Although when we’re at camp, we all scream for…oh never mind…)
The CSP is produced by Connecticut Rivers Council at Baden Studios and is hosted by Jay Messier.

We have been receiving a lot of communication on what the registration fees are going to be for the council and national registration. We sent a notification out back in June detailing the fee structure. It is also now on the website's resource page and membership page. As we covered during our fireside chat in June, our Council will be moving to an October 31 charter expiration date in 2023. Units will pay a pro-rated 10-month fee during this year’s recharter cycle that will register the unit from January 1 through October 31. The fees will be:
