Wellington Street is now open

Funded by the Government, the major reconstruction of Wellington Street is now open to pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. This key gateway connecting the railway station to the town centre is much safer and more inviting for everyone who uses it.

  • We've added a new zebra crossing on Wellington Street
  • Installed a new toucan crossing on Milford Street
  • Separated the paths for cyclists and pedestrians
  • Refreshed and upgraded the road markings making the junction safer
  • Constructed ramps to slow down traffic

Improving safety on Ferndale Road

Work to upgrade the crossroads at the junction between Ferndale Road, Whitehouse Road and St Mary’s Grove (Bradley’s Corner) to make it safer for pedestrians and motorists has begun.

There are four-way temporary traffic lights and some path closures in place to ensure the public and workers are safe while the work is carried out. The works are being undertaken one corner at a time to minimise disruption.

It is anticipated the works will be completed in the next 5-6 weeks.

Upgrading Mannington Roundabout

The final phase of upgrading Mannington Roundabout has begun and once the work is complete, drivers will be able to leave the retail park towards the motorway via Great Western Way which will reduce traffic on the roundabout.

This week the contractor set up the site compound and began ecological works in the area. They have also been busy marking out and locating utilities in preparation for excavation work to begin next week.

Next week Great Western Way (south bound) will be subject to two narrow running lanes and a temporary 30mph speed limit on the approach to the retail park.

Plans for an electric vehicle future

The Government has outlined its intention to phase out petrol and diesel cars by 2040 and committed to net zero carbon emissions by 2035.

We are proposing that housebuilders should provide a minimum of one electric vehicle charging point per new-build home and we will want your views on this next month.

Dogs die in hot cars

According to the RSPCA, many people still believe that it's ok to leave a dog in a car on a warm day if the windows are left open or they're parked in the shade.

With hot weather expected this weekend, remember a car can become extremely hot very quickly. If you see a dog in a hot car, don't be afraid to dial 999, the police will inform animal welfare if assistance is needed.
