MESSAGE

from the Chairperson of Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center

Warmest greetings from Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center (PYC)!

First of all, on behalf of Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center, we wish you a Happy Eid Mubarak 1440 H. May us be healthy and success for the coming year.

The second quarter of the year 2019 had been exceptional for us as we celebrated our 3rd anniversary on June 16, 2019. This celebration was special as we launched PYC Data Center and soft-launched the book “JASMERAH: Menguak Masa Transisi ESDM 2000-2009” written by Prof. Purnomo Yusgiantoro. The Data Center aims to be an integrated platform where researchers and relevant stakeholders could find the data related to policy, statistics, and economics, specifically in the energy and mineral resources sector. Meanwhile, the book “JASMERAH” is a book that shows the story behind the decisions made by Prof. Purnomo when he was in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources during 2000-2009, as well as the dynamics in the energy sector during that period.

Regarding research activities, the PYC research team visited a biogas reactor producer, PT Swen Inovasi Transfer, in Ciomas, Bogor. The team learned about the supply chain of the biogas in Indonesia, covering the production until it reaches the end consumers.

We are also glad to announce that M. Indra al Irsyad is selected as the PYC’s representative for the Student Energy Summit 2019 (SES 2019) in London. His paper with the title “The Impacts of Emission Reduction Targets in Indonesia Electricity System: An Energy-Economy-Environment Model Simulation” was selected as the best paper after going through a blind peer review process. So far, we also have selected 11 student ambassadors for the International Energy Conference 2019 (IEC 2019) after a rigorous interview process with the committee.

PYC also contributed to society through a social service: a mammography checkup, partnering together with Yayasan Kanker Payudara Indonesia, Paguyuban Istri Pensiunan Warakawuri (PIPW) and RS Kanker Dharmais. The event aimed to educate women on breast cancer and provided a checkup for the invitees.

In the coming months, PYC will participate in SES 2019 in London, hold a junior chess competition, and an International Energy Conference on November 13, 2019. There are also on-going research projects and reports with several institutions, as well as new ones. There will also be new publications relating to the energy and natural resources sector.

Lastly, we would like to express our gratitude to all stakeholders that have supported and collaborated with us in the past 3 years. PYC will keep doing the best to make a better future!

EVENTS IN ENERGY SECTOR

“PYC FIELD TRIP REPORT: BIOGAS REACTOR AT

PT SWEN INOVASI TRANSFER IN CIOMAS, BOGOR"

On May 15, 2019, Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center (PYC) researchers visited PT Swen Inovasi Transfer (Swen IT) in Ciomas, Bogor. Swen IT produces biogas reactor made of fiberglass and also modified some existing electrical appliances to be compatible with biogas usages, such as water heater, stove, and oven. The PYC researchers learned many aspects of biogas in the supply chain, starting from raw materials provision until purchase by the customers.

“COLLABORATION BETWEEN

THE PURNOMO YUSGIANTORO CENTER (PYC)

On April 2, 2019, The Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center (PYC) welcomed the ClimateWorks, that was represented by Meg Argyriou and Guntur Sutiyono at PYC’s head office. During the meeting, both organizations presented their backgrounds, shared their working experiences, and discussed current energy issues in Indonesia. Both agreed to follow up their relationship by a collaboration to solve some energy issues in the future.

(SES 2019) IN LONDON"

The Call for Paper program is one of the events that will be held for PYC International Energy Conference 2019. This conference will be held on November 13, 2019, in Jakarta, and there are three topics issued: technology, policy, and investment. The papers will undergo a double peer review selection process and selected papers will be presented during the conference.

There are two submission deadlines: April 26, 2019 and July 1, 2019. The author of the best paper on the first submission will represent PYC for Student Energy Summit 2019 (SES 2019) on July 17-20, 2019 in London. We gladly announced that Mr. M. Indra al Irsyad’s (Ph.D. Candidate from Queensland University) has the highest score for his manuscript on “The Impacts of Emission Reduction Targets in Indonesia Electricity System: An Energy-Economy-Environment Model Simulation”. Congratulations to Mr. M. Indra al Irsyad! On the other hand, good luck for those who already submitted their manuscript on the second submission. Hope to see you at the conference!

SOCIAL EVENTS

"MAMMOGRAPHY CHECKUP"

The Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center (PYC) collaborated with “Paguyuban Isteri Karyawan dan Warakawuri Kementerian ESDM” and “Yayasan Kanker Payudara Indonesia” to hold a mammography checkup to support awareness on breast cancer. The event was held on April 15, 2019 at PYC. This event aimed to educate women on breast cancer and encourage them to do an initial examination. The speaker, Dr. Martha, said that there are a lot of women who are still afraid to carry out an initial examination so that when they are treated, they are mostly at an advanced stage. If breast cancer is identified earlier, the possibility of recovery is 98%. For this reason, it is advised that women who are 40 years old should carry out mammography check up. The mammography checkup was attended by members of the PIPW, staffs and invitees from PYC, the wives of TNI members, and staffs from “Kelurahan Melawai”.

"THE PURNOMO YUSGIANTORO CENTER
