What to Watch and Where

We may not be able to open our doors yet to let you come and see films, ballet, opera, musicals etc up on our big screen but we felt it would be nice to make you aware of what services are available out there so that you can watch the likes of productions from the National Theatre, Royal Opera House, Matthew Bourne's New Adventures, Andrew Lloyd-Webber and many more in the comfort of your own home and, in many cases, for free!

Film Streaming Services

Here's a selection of online services where you can watch films, documentaries and TV episodes on either your TV, computer or tablet.

Netflix

Access to 1000’s of films, documentaries and TV series - there are sometimes introductory offers online you can find, if not then basic package is £5.99 per month

Amazon Prime

1000's of Movies & TV Episodes. Try for 30 days, pay monthly, cancel anytime - £7.99 per month after 30 days free trial

BFI Player

14 days free then £4.99 per month - Rent the latest releases, subscribe to classics and explore the best from the BFI, national and regional archives

Mubi

Home Of Award-Winning foreign language and english language Films, Hand-Picked By Experts. Watch Anytime, Anywhere - currently 7 Days are free and then it’s £9.99 per month

Musicals, Opera, Ballet, Theatre

A selection of online websites and services to enable you to watch these productions either via your TV, computer or tablet device.

National Theatre

Enjoy World class theatre online for free thanks to the National Theatre at Home series on YouTube where productions will be available for a limited period. So far they have streamed One Man, Two Guvnors and Jane Eyre with Twelfth Night available from 23rd April and Treasure Island currently available

Royal Opera House

Full-length productions, musical masterclasses and glimpses behind the scenes can be seen for free any time. Performances still to come include The Metamorphosis (Royal Ballet 2013) from 17th April, Gloriana (Royal Opera 2013) from 24th April and The Winter’s Tale (Royal Ballet 2014) from 1st May

Andrew Lloyd-Webber

A different Andrew Lloyd-Webber musical will be broadcast for free each Friday at 7pm and remains available for 48hrs afterwards on YouTube. So far they have screened Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar and Phantom of the Opera.

Matthew Bourne

From 19th April at 8pm on Sky Arts - Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake filmed live at Sadlers Wells during the 2018/2019 tour, then on 26th April - Matthew Bourne’s Romeo and Juliet from 2019 and finally on 3rd May will be Matthew Bourne’s The Car Man from 2015. Sky Arts can either be accessed via your Sky package or via a subscription to NowTV

Royal Albert Hall

Royal Albert Home will see artists sharing their work from their homes to yours. Browse the free streaming programme, there are many more acts still to be announced – all sessions will be added to this page.

Fleabag

Phoebe Waller-Bridge's one-woman show, which played a sold-out run at London’s Wyndham’s theatre, is being streamed to raise money for those affected by Covid-19

The Curve

A host of online initiatives and activities to bring theatre into your home during lockdown from Leicester's The Curve theatre which includes Joe Orton's What the Butler Saw starring Rufus House from 19th April.

Chichester Festival Theatre

Their archive recording of Flowers for Mrs Harris is available to view below for free until 8 May and is captioned for deaf audiences with an audio introduction for blind and visually impaired audience members.

Rescheduled Events

The above four events have been rescheduled, and for those who already had tickets for these they will have been automatically moved to the new dates. If you are unable to make the new dates then please email us on mail@theriverside.co.uk
