TALK - HOW DID HE DO IT WITH CEO OF CYTRON TECHNOLOGIES, Online, Friday 5th March 4pm

Tan Eng Tong is the co-founder and CEO of Cytron Technologies. He started his robotic journey in 2003 with a team of aspiring undergraduates who represented their university in a robotic competition. Established in late 2004, Cytron developed various robotic tools to facilitate makers, researchers and engineers. A child friendly educational robotic kit  was launched in 2015.

Chef Rohana is back in the Tropical Spice Garden’s jungle kitchen. TALK - THE ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE FOR MUSICIANS, Online, Sunday 7th March 8pm

The Alexander Technique is a re-education of the body emphasizing the relationship between the head, neck and spine, and conscious awareness. Learn how to use and coordinate yourself to improve your playing performance, prevent injury and move with ease. The session will be conducted by Dr. Goh Shian Li, a musician at heart and a chiropractor by profession, having graduated with distinction from RMIT with a Bachelor and Masters of Clinical Chiropractic.

FILM - CHINESE GO HOME, Hikayat, 226 Beach St and Online, Monday 8th March 8pm

Between 1948 and 1953, over 20,000 Chinese people were deported from what was then British Malaya to China. Both the countries they were leaving and going to were embroiled in war and revolution. Chinese Go Home tells the story of this extraordinarily complex historical moment.  This is a special film screening to mark International Women’s Day and is the premiere of this documentary film. Director Rachel Leow will join from Cambridge. She is Senior Lecturer in Modern East Asian History at the University of Cambridge, and author of Taming Babel: Language in the Making of Malaysia.

VARIETY SHOW - INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY, Online, Monday 8th March 8.30pm

The First Lady of Malaysian Theatre Dato’ Faridah Merican will be hosting a variety show in conjunction with International Women’s Day. Premiering on 8th of March, the “Women’s Day Special with Faridah” will include performances by Joe Hasham, Omar Ali, Ian Chow, Mark Beau, Amma and Aunty Rupa, Leeya and others. The variety show will available to watch on YouTube from 8.30pm on March 8th until the end of the month.

MUSIC WORKSHOP - THE DISSECTION OF POPULAR MUSIC, Online, Friday & Saturday 12th & 13th March 8.30pm

A student at the Berklee College of Music majoring in Music Education, Boba Lee has 11 years of experience under his belt as a music educator, producer and drummer. This workshop will focus on analysing the elements of effective songwriting in Part 1 and tips on how to become an effective songwriter in Part 2. This workshop will be conducted in English.

G-Short will be a short film festival held as part of the George Town Festival 2021. G-Short wants to encourage local film-makers to create original films, in a 90 second format. Cash prizes for winners.

THE VIBRANT JOURNEY - A SOLO EXHIBITION BY SHOBANA ANNE, Hin Bus Depot, Jalan Gurdwara, March 11th-28th 12pm-8pm

Of Malaysian Indian heritage and with a rural Australian upbringing, Shobana Anne was influenced by indigenous Australian art and modern western abstract art. In this exhibit, she responds to the beauty of nature, exploring it both at a microbiological level and with deconstructed organic shapes that represent her impressions of her experiences. For more information, click here.

KECIK-KECIK GROUP SHOW ARTIST CALL OUT, Online, Until March 31st

Penang Art District once again collaborates with Hin Bus Depot to bring Malaysian contemporary art to a wider audience by introducing a variety of affordable contemporary pieces to grow a strong culture of collecting Malaysian art. 

In light of the periodic Movement Control Order, this year, Kecik-Kecik will be conducted online for accessibility while keeping it safe for all artists and collectors.

Sattama is an artist from Sabah. Hin Bus Depot created an mixed exhibition of his sketches, prints, canvas works as well as wood works, but as the MCO forced Hin to close, the exhibition is now online here. All works are for sale.
