Wishing a blessed Thanksgiving to all my readers/friends who celebrate. I’ve been worrying for years that it would become an over-shadowed tradition squeezed between Halloween and Christmas. Should we all start wearing this shirt in October? 😉

Just kidding. We are headed to LA next week to feast with family… and do some research for a new series I’m writing. It’s one I started a few years ago and set aside when Tule Publishing offered me a contract. This trilogy is definitely not set in Montana.😉 It opens in San Jose, California, but I’m pretty sure it might include some action in or around the City of Angels.

I’ll take this time to wish you all a day of gratitude. I’m grateful for my good health, my wonderful family, and my dear friends who also love to read and are always so supportive of me and my books. THANK YOU!

As promised, here are some photos from our hike around Convict Lake. In the background is Mt. Laurel, such a mild-sounding name for such a dramatic-looking mountain.

On our last full day at the cabins, a cold front blew in from the northwest. As my friend Mary told me (after her trip to Norway), “There’s no such thing as bad weather--only bad clothing.) Happily, we’d packed our winter coats, hats, gloves, hiking boots, and alpaca socks. The tiny bits of ice that peppered us as we started the hike from the Convict Lake Marina were no deterrent at all.

But the wind was pretty crazy.

It blew Fred and Colleen back to the cottage, but Paul and I made the whole trek and we geeked out on the fabulous views, the occasional dusting of snow, and the peacefulness of the trail. Below are two views from opposite sides of the lake.

Luckily, we made it back to the cabin before it started snowing in earnest. Fred and Colleen had the fire going, adult beverages, and snacks waiting for us—along with a jigsaw puzzle, which we knocked out before it was time to get ready for dinner at the resort’s restaurant.

We enjoyed our dinner very much. So much, in fact, we hadn’t noticed the snowfall until we walked outside. Is this a wonderland or what? Our car was not amused. The crunch of ice and snow under our tires reminded so much of growing up in South Dakota.

I fell asleep to the sound of wind gusts and awoke to a world of white. We weren’t sure what this would do to our travel plans, but elevation is a funny thing. By the time we drove down from our mountain resort, we found the main highway was snow free and mostly dry. The drive home was simply stunning.
