On the early morning of December 5, 2013, Ayana was awakened by her smoke alarm. She and her 1 year old son barely escaped their blazing home. While they were safe, their home at 46 Park Street was beyond repair and had to be demolished.
Several years later, Ayana reached out to VINES see if her property could become home to a community garden, making something good come from this tragedy. The garden beds for the Park Street Community Garden were built a year ago this fall, and throughout 2018 neighbors and volunteers continued their transformation this corner lot into beautiful space that everyone can be proud of.
In July, Ayana and her son were surrounded by neighbors and friends in celebration of what can be accomplished when a community comes together. When you donate to or volunteer with VINES, you make these moments possible. Thank you for your support!
