This week on the farm, Sadie had a trip to the vet. She wasn't too keen on her kennel cough vaccine, so Farmer Joe and I teamed up to get it done. Once back home, we gave her a tasty fried egg as a reward for her bravery.

Our chicks are a bit skittish this time around. They scamper away whenever we come by to feed or water them. This bashful bunch is a first for us!

In other news, Mama Turkey Hen is still sitting tight on her eggs. We're keeping a close eye on her for any changes.

And then there's Miss Shirley, our mini Alpine goat. Unlike the rest of the carrot-loving goat crew, she's been holding out for apples. She hasn't wanted any for a couple of months but has recently decided she's back on the apple wagon. And trust me, she's not shy about letting us know.

The prayer drifted up before he could stop it.

He’d trusted the Lord to help, but God hadn’t prevented the bomb his men had been diffusing from exploding. His friends had died, and he’d been allowed to live.

Why?

It was the one question he couldn’t stop asking the Almighty even after he’d turned away from Him.

He climbed back into his truck and snatched up the photograph of his buddies that sat in his console. The men he should’ve protected with his own life were dead. Their families mourned them while he got to come home to his own family and to Ivy.

Ivy. He turned the key in the ignition and turned the truck back toward town. He needed answers and they wouldn’t wait until morning.

I'm delighted to announce that Betrayed Trust has made its way back to my editor for the second round of edits, marking a significant milestone in its journey.

With that task off my plate, my focus now turns to Grave Secrets and Wooing the Widower. As these titles are scheduled for release in October and November respectively, they require my full concentration. However, with the ever-entertaining critters around the farm, it's a balancing act of duties and creativity.

One-third of the narrative unfolds against the backdrop of World War II, a period that I don't personally enjoy reading about. However, the story comes to life through the character of Vi, a strong woman with an unyielding spirit that shines through the harsh wartime experiences.

The book was an enjoyable read, an accomplishment in storytelling, with Cambron impressively managing a multitude of details and successfully tying the narrative threads together in the end.

However, the half-star deduction is due to the underrepresentation of faith elements. For a novel categorized as Christian fiction, the spiritual aspect felt somewhat added on in haste, rather than seamlessly integrated into the storyline. This slight shortcoming doesn't take away from the fact that "The Lost Castle" is an impressive tapestry of timelines and human resilience.
