Director’s Report
April 2019
Community Coming Together

April's showers cleared just in time to celebrate some of our favorite things: our annual Voluntea, Earth Day festivities, and Virginia Warren, our local Camas historian. She recently donated her personal scrapbooks to our collections - stop by to check them out!

What We're Reading

Staff and Trustees' current reads.

Staff Happenings

Several staff and one Library Trustee had the opportunity to attend the 2019 OLA-WLA Conference in Vancouver, which was special because this year, two state library conferences conjoined. Topics ran the gamut from early literacy, to leadership and management, to graphic design. Connie Urquhart and Julie Hill will give a brief report at the May Board meeting, and a more detailed overview from all the staff who attended will occur at the staff training day on June 3rd. All Trustees are invited to attend this session.

Number Crunch

Did you know? With our scheduling software, we can track the kind of time employees spend. For example, we categorize time by "service desk," "program," "acquisitions," and the most important-- "vacation!" The goal is to make sure each Library Associate spends at least 50% of their day directly serving the public, either at the service desk or by hosting a program. The software enables us to monitor and maintain that goal and as a result, provide superior service to the community. Technology for the win!

Congrats to Kaysie Taylor (above left) who was promoted from a Library Page to a Library Associate, and to Vanessa Perger (above right), who was promoted from a substitute Library Page and Associate to a permanent Library Page. We are so pleased to have them in their new positions, which started May 1.
