Hi, Ashima
I don’t think my feet have touched the ground this month, with events in Chepstow, Crickhowell, Swansea, Oswestry, Newcastle (as pictured here with the wonderful LJ Ross), Glasgow, Stirling, Liverpool and Lincoln, as well as a trip to the Netherlands. I’ve got a few more dates in my diary (see below for details), then I’ll be pulling up the drawbridge for a winter of writing.
With all three teenagers facing GCSE exams this year, there’s been a shift in atmosphere at home of late. A little less socialising, a little more homework, and perhaps a little more anxiety than in previous autumn terms. If I’m on social media less often, or take more time to reply to your messages, I hope you’ll understand. In a further shift to our family dynamic, my husband has returned to full-time employment, after six years of keeping the wheels on at home. Lots of changes to get used to.
I’ve been reading some excellent books over the last few weeks. As well as my usual monthly recommendation, and next month’s book club read (both below), I absolutely loved Simon Mayo’s Tick Tock. Also, if you haven’t already read Isaac and the Egg, please check it out. It’s an extraordinary debut that deserves far more recognition than it seems to have had so far. Do let me know what books you’ve enjoyed lately, even if they’ve been out for a while.
How do you feel about the change of seasons? It can be unsettling, don’t you think? I’ve certainly found myself quite melancholy over the past month, but I’m embracing autumn now, and enjoying the peace and quiet of an empty house. When I’m at home to enjoy it, that is…
Have a wonderful month, and happy reading!
