Camp Centurion Update
The July issue of Koinonia introduced a new outreach partner for our church. Camp Centurion is the future home for (up to) 11 military veterans that are having difficulty adjusting to society due to experiences they had while serving our country. The house is in Bessemer City, NC, and the hope is for the dedication of this new home to be held on Veteran’s Day, November 11 (we will keep you updated on this).
We often talk about “how can we reach people”. This church has a history of assisting in reaching people that need our help, but will never grace the doors of our church. CAAC, Stellie J. Jackson Enrichment Center, York County Habitat for Humanity Clover Satellite, River Hills Community Church Preschool are all examples of programs that were created by or strategically advanced in conjunction with the Missions team at our church.
Camp Centurion is another such mission. Since the July Koinonia article, a member of our church contacted a friend that works for National Gypsum. After some back/forth with this person, National Gypsum supplied all the wallboard needed to complete the interior of Camp Centurion so that the walls are now ready to be painted. And the wallboard they provided was their top-of-the-line product! Another member of our congregation asked a business that she works with about their flooring. After some back/forth, Prosource in Charlotte has agreed to supply all the flooring for this home…over 2400 square feet of new LVP. And a floor installer that happens to be a veteran has agreed to install the flooring for free.
Please look at the attached September newsletter from Camp Centurion. There are other opportunities for which you might be able to assist.
Many people in this world want to help, but do not know where or how to do so. If you know someone that might be able to help in one of the remaining areas of need, please contact Jon Dunn (704-579-0114) or Mark Woolery (704-534-0122).
It is very likely we will never see any of these veterans in our sanctuary…but they will feel the love of God through the outreach of this church. And that is what we are called to do.
