Are you designing anything interesting at the moment?
This week’s design lesson
This is a lesson from the Tiny Design Lessons ebook.
Are you making your designs intuitive?
If you can reduce the strain on users’ minds they will feel more comfortable and happier. But how do you do that? You can focus on making things easy to use, learn, find and adapt.
Put action points where users will logically look for them, e.g a “New Item” button should be close to the actual item list.
Choose a suitable interface element for the content, e.g don’t use a dropdown menu for a simple binary choice.
Use the squint test. The most important thing on a page should catch your eye. If not, it means it’s not obvious enough.
People can understand something faster if you show them, not describe it. Use examples.

Design thought of the week
”Design is too often talked about as form, not function.”
