LICC Back to School Fair
Bike Rodeo and Helmet Handout
VISION, partners, and volunteers participated in Intermediate Unit 29's first Back to School Fair.
VISION partnered with Pennsylvania Downtown Center to provide a bike rodeo in the IU gymnasium. Giving kiddos the opportunity to take balance bikes for a spin through an course, to learn how to ride bikes, fit a helmet, follow signs, and follow direction.
Additionally, we provided free helmets to early attendees and had additional helmets to borrow for the course, when we ran out of giveaway helmets. Injury Prevention staff from St Luke's University Health Network assisted by fitting participants in helmets. Over 500 participants attended the event! We had 75 helmets, made possible through Schuylkill Area Community Foundation grant funds.
Shout out to partners and volunteers: Sam Pearson, PA Downtown Center; Christopher Rehnart and Andrea Nesfeder, SLUHN; Karen McMenamine (and daughters!) and Kyla Guillermo, PSU Schuylkill nursing staff and student; Tonya Hopple, VISION advisory board; and Joann Weres, RSVP volunteer.
