It was no surprise that the BANKS DIH Annual Shareholders Meetings 2021 were combined and held virtually as one. Observing one of the COVID-19 protocols – Social Distancing – it was of course, a wise and responsible decision by Chairman Clifford Barrington Reis, CCH, and the Board of Directors of the Company. Traditionally, the Meetings are held at Thirst Park in Georgetown on the fourth Saturday of January, followed by the Branch meetings at Airy Hall on the Essequibo Coast, Region 2, the next day (Sunday). At Bartica, Region 7, on the Wednesday. The Branch Meetings usually continue at Linden, Region 10, on the Friday, culminating the following Sunday at New Amsterdam, the Capital of Berbice. African Americans have appeared on television as long as the medium has been around. In fact, the first Black person on TV may have been Broadway star Ethel Waters, who hosted a one-off variety show on NBC on June 14, 1939, when television was still being developed. The medium evolved over the next decade as TVs became a household fixture, but roles for Black actors did not, with most being relegated to playing servants or providing comic relief. Taiwan to open office in Guyana; US welcomes move; – Then Suddenly Terminated the next day

Guyana has granted permission to Taiwan to open an office in Georgetown to facilitate trade and investment, but government has assured that the South American nation’s One China Policy remains intact, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Elisabeth Harper said Wednesday night.
“Guyana has not recognised Taiwan as a State. We continue to accept the One China policy and our diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China remains intact,” she told News-Talk Radio Guyana 103.1 FM/ Demerara Waves Online News.
