CSU Staff Member Honored with Two Awards

Mary Snow, Family & Consumer Sciences Agent of Colorado State University Extension Jefferson County Colorado, was honored at the National Extension Association for Family and Consumer Sciences (NEAFCS) annual session. She received the NEAFCS Distinguished Service Award, recognizing Mary for 25 years of service with Extension, programming in family resource management and food safety. This award is presented for leadership, outstanding program efforts and personal and professional development.

She was also a member of the team that received the 1st Place National and 1st Place Western Region NEAFCS Food Safety Award for the PRESERVE SMART app/website. This app provides 24/7 mobile access to tested food preservation recipes and processes, searchable by produce type and with customizable elevation adjustments up to 10,000 ft.

Volunteers Needed – Library Book Sale

One of Extension’s partners can use some help!  The Jefferson County Library Foundation needs volunteers for its “Whale of a Used Book Sale” being held October 14-18, 2020 at the Jeffco Fairgrounds.

Jeffco 4-H Takes on the Colorado State Fair

Local 4-Hers recently represented Jeffco very well at the ‘Reimagined’ 2020 Colorado State Fair. Over 70 members exhibited their static projects and competed in livestock, horses, dogs, shooting sports and demonstrations. Congrats to all!

Jeffco Master Gardeners Celebrate Milestone in New Grow and Give Program

In a response to the COVID pandemic the Colorado Master Gardener Program created The Grow and Give Project. To date, 28,000 pounds of food have been grown by Master Gardeners as well as citizens in underserved areas across the state. Jefferson County Master Gardeners have contributed over 1,000 pounds of food to date to our local food banks, pantries and organizations who support our underserved and at-risk populations. The public is welcome to register their gardens.

Preserve Smart provides a mobile-friendly way to access and use tested food preservation recipes and instructions, whether you live at sea level or high in the Rocky Mountains!

Quickly determine the elevation of your kitchen, access seasonal produce information for your state, and get canning, freezing and drying instructions for over 50 foods. Information provided is based on recommendations by Colorado State University Extension and the National Center for Home Food Preservation—established with funding from the Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture (CSREES-USDA).
