The art of being happy requires extracting happiness from common things.

Hello Happiness Fans,

Here is this week’s Happiness Report.

I hope you had a great week and you have something relaxing to do for the weekend. Here are a few good stories to make you smile. Let me know if you like them.

12 Steps to Happiness

These 12 steps to happiness were excerpted from the new book, Happiness Power by Robert Gill, Jr. They are simple but critical steps to improving happiness.

Show Generosity by Giving

Research shows that giving is a powerful pathway to personal growth and lasting happiness.

Enjoy Nature

Walk your way to happiness. Being outdoors boosts energy and makes you happier, helping you relieve the everyday stresses of an overscheduled life.

Eat the Right Foods

Learn to eat what makes you feel good in the long-term and don't live by harsh restrictions. Once you do, you will find yourself a happier and healthier individual.

Thank Others

Show appreciation to others by thanking them. It will boost your happiness, too. Expressing gratitude bolsters self-worth, and self-esteem.

Socialize

Social connections—friendships, relationships with family members, closeness to neighbors, is closely related to well-being and personal happiness.

Excercise

Exercising will make you happier -- even if you don't like it. It quickly reduces anxiety and depression and increases endorphins – the happiness chemicals.

Experience Adventure

Experiences provide an emotional high that never fades. The memories of experiences shared with people we love also increase our happiness over time.

Express Love

When you express the emotion of love you create happiness and joy within yourself.

Help Others

Studies show that when people donated to charity, the brains' reward system was triggered -- something psychologists call "helper's high."

Meditate

A study showed that after eight weeks of meditating for approximately one hour a day, six days a week, test subjects reported that they had become happier.

Goal Setting

Scientific research shows that setting and working towards goals can contribute to happiness in various ways.

Do What You Love

You don't have to love your job, but you have to derive a certain level of satisfaction from what you do and a feeling of enjoyment during most of the work-day.

Happiness Power: How to Unleash Your Powers and Live a More Joyful Life

12 Steps to Happiness are excerpted from Happiness Power.

A little girl is attending her first wedding.

As the priest reads the vows, she leans over to her mother and whispers, "Why is the bride dressed in white?"

"Because white is the color of happiness," her mother explains, "and today is the happiest day in her life."

The child ponders this for a moment and then asks, "So why is the groom wearing black?"

A Stranger's Act of Kindness

An act of kindness from a stranger has given a woman battling cancer hope after being told she may only have a year to live.

Kim Whipple was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer in July 2019. Last week, she was sitting on a front porch in Queens Creek, Arizona, when a stranger walked up to her and handed her a letter.

"She's holding it and says, 'I want to give you this'," she told FOX10.

The letter reads:

"I don't know you, and you don't know me, but when I was out walking my dog, I noticed a lady in your garage sitting in a chair who is sick, and I then I looked at the truck with the middle finger with the 'c' word.

My brother passed away from the 'c' word, which was my hero. So when I see someone who might have it, my heart is with your family and that lady I saw sitting in the chair. I will keep your family in my prayers. Hoping that she kicks its butt.

Please use this money on anything. I know it's not a lot but something that might make her day brighter."

Inside, the letter was $60.

Whipple, who told FOX10 she was only given a year to live when she went to a doctor in July 2019, said that now doctors are hoping she may end up in remission.

She said the simple act of kindness by a stranger gave her yet another positive boost.

"One of the best things that's happened to me in a long time," she told the news outlet.

A Love and Happiness Tale

Once upon a time, there was an island where all the feelings lived: Happiness, Sadness, Knowledge, and all of the others including Love. One day it was announced to the feelings that the island would sink, so all repaired their boats and left.

Love wanted to persevere until the last possible moment. When the island was almost sinking, Love decided to ask for help. Richness was passing by Love in a grand boat. Love said, "Richness, can you take me with you?" Richness answered, "No, I can't. There is a lot of gold and silver in my boat. There is no place here for you."

Love decided to ask Vanity who was also passing by in a beautiful vessel, "Vanity, please help me!" "I can't help you Love. You are all wet and might damage my boat." Vanity answered. Sadness was close by so Love asked for help, "Sadness, let me go with you." "Oh.... Love, I am so sad that I need to be by myself!" Happiness passed by Love too, but he was so happy that she did not even hear when Love called her!

Suddenly, there was a voice, "Come Love, I will take you." It was an elder. Love felt so blessed and overjoyed that he even forgot to ask the elder his name. When they arrived at dry land, the elder went his own way.

Love realizing how much he owed the elder and asked Knowledge, another elder, "Who helped me?" "It was Time," Knowledge answered. "Time?" asked Love. "But why did Time help me?" Knowledge smiled with deep wisdom and answered, "Because, only Time is capable of understanding how great Love is."

Well, that's all folks. Until next week, make yourself happier giving to someone that doesn't expect it. Then watch the results.

Yours in happiness,

Bob
